Netgear R6300V2, DD-WRT-v3_0 r37305, self-powered (external power pack) 800G usb hard drive that was formatted as EXT4 on a PC

When I power cycle the router my NAS doesn’t work, and no network shows up on my PC. The only way I can get the NAS to work again is to log in to the router and disable the USB (and apply changes) then enable USB (and apply changes).
Questions:
1) Is this normal?
2) Is there a recommended procedure to power down a
router that has a NAS?
3) Is there any way I can remedy the loss of NAS with
scripts I can put in the router? If you have any
ideas at all I will try them all.
4) What is the best windows program to read (possibly
write) to an EXT4 formatted drive?
Thanks in advance,
Glen.

Well the no network on pc part doesn't make any sense unless it connects on the 2.4 wireless band

That part is addressed in a sticky in this general section
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=165678

Some hard drives need to be re-loaded after startup to be seen after a reboot

This can automatically be done in the Administration/Comands tab enter in box at top and then ticking Save Startup
Code:
sleep 60
stopservice samba3
startservice samba3

If you can't wait 60 seconds??...30 should work

For windows to access/read/write to it

Just properly set up a Samba Server on router and properly configire windows to see it
Windows will read/write to it as if it was vfat or ntfs without any issue

And/or

If using a <Kong> build use FileZilla ..preferred by me for several reasons...or WinSCP

And/or

If using a BrainSlayer build you have to use WinSCP...because it can downgrade itself to use the older/less robust SCP protocol....BS builds have a dropbear with broken SFTP

To format and/or partition a drive to any file type in windows... I've had much success using Mini Partition Tool Free...on both hard drives and USB sticks

Hope any of this helps.....

Seriously??

This guys first post gets looked at and ignored for 2 weeks

Now your help is only to tell him he is in the wrong spot?

I just rechecked.....this area of the forum is still titled "ARM or PPC based Hardware"

Now I agree he'd get more attention in the Broadcom section....but that is not really what you said

Strange I haven't noticed you policing and telling any other Broadcom router users out of this area?

Also strange our moderator keeps moving broadcom routers threads to here.....have you scolded and straightened him out?

Thank you Dr_K.

Your help fixed the problem with the hard drive going away after the router power cycle. I tested it and tested it even with a different hard drive that is powered by the USB port and your fix was solid. I usually (but not always) would have to reboot the (Windows 7) PC so as it could see the router network again but that is OK as most of my PC's aren't always on.

I found this introduction to routers very interesting. What is the best source for all the dd-wrt router commands with syntax explanations? As an example I found sdparm by accident by I had no idea it even existed.

I really appreciate your help.

Glad it worked out for you

Good question.....

For starters you could check out

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Iptables_command

And

https://ttcshelbyville.wordpress.com/2014/06/29/commands-in-telnet-dd-wrt-and-tomato-routers/

dd-wrt is based on linux so you could try all those commands....just don't expect them all to work....or work as you'd expect them to....

Like

http://www.perpetualpc.net/srtd_commands_rev_mobile.html

Since dd-wrt is constantly being updated and evolving...I dont believe there any current nor totally accurate lists of everything

Good luck

Hummm.....well my bad then...and I apologize for the sarcasm

Many many years of reading/learning here and the curve keeps on curving

Though it is rather strange that one can still post a reply to a thread that...that is no longer here?...nore does it say where it was Moved to?....and it's still here??

Can you see where my confusion initiated from?

Just a suggestion....even if in the wrong forum..

Could you amend the thread title to contain "FIXED" or "RESOLVED"

To maybe help others that are searching with the same or similar issue
