Does anyone know how I can add openVPN to this router? I know there is a 8 MB flash limit. For some reason the usb does not seem enabled on this most recent build.

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2018/08-09-2018-r36527/trendnet-811DRU/trendnet-811dru-webflash.bin

I do not see anywhere to enable it and it did not detect it when I connected it to the router. The current jffs partition is read-only. I was hoping to use the USB Flash Drive for for jffs and then be able to follow some of the docs that provide the steps for manually adding packages with ipkg. Any tips are appreciated.

OpenVPN is under Services->VPN

The USB is enables under Services->USB

It's included in most 8M builds.

This is mini firmware

DD-WRT v3.0-r36527 mini (08/09/1Cool

There are several different distributions of the DD-WRT firmware. The mini contains all the features of the standard distribution, with the exception of chillispot, nocat, rflow, kaid, CIFS client, SNMP, IPv6, and MMC/SD card support. The standard (std) distribution includes all features, with the exception of VOIP. The standard-nokaid (std-nokaid) distribution includes all features of standard, with kaid removed to free some flash space. The VOIP distribution includes all features, with kaid removed to make room for Milkfish. The VPN edition includes OpenVPN but does not include IPv6, CIFS client, or kaid. The micro edition is a stripped down version designed for the WRT54G v5 and other 2MB router models.

none of those work. the only ones that work are the ones for the DRU-811

so this one

ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2018/08-09-2018-r36527/trendnet-811DRU/

Linux trendnet 4.4.147-rc1 #3644 Thu Aug 9 09:47:32 CEST 2018 armv7l DD-WRT

I think this one has 64K NVRAM
NVRAM 28 KB / 64 KB

seems related to

They will not work because they are for MIPSEL.

You have to use the trailed build.

EXT was taken out.

A little late to respond... but the problem is that the TEW-811DRU firmware had grown too large and could no longer fit, so support for USB was removed at some point in 2018. The last version to have USB (and still fit on the flash) was build 33986 from December 2017.

Edit: More details about this problem here: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=317821
