I am using TP Link Archer C7.

I went to https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TP_Link_Archer_C7 and try to follow the instruction.

The firmware the site provides are -

factory-to-ddwrt.bin
tplink_archer-c7-v2.bin

However, I could not flash those. It gives error -

Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

After some digging I found out -

https://www.cnx-software.com/2015/07/27/new-fcc-rules-may-prevent-installing-openwrt-on-wifi-routers/

Due to FCC's rules -

Quote:
right now only these products has limitation on firmware: Archer C7 V2, Archer C1900 V1, Touch P5 V1, Archer C2600 V1, Archer C3200 V1, Archer C2 V1, Archer C5 V2, Archer C8 V1 ,Archer C9 V1, TL-WR841N V11, TL-WDR3500 V1, TL-WR940N V3.0, TL-WR1043ND V3.0, TL-WR710N(USA), TL-WR841N V9.0 and all products will also limit firmware in the future.

My guess is, it is not only TP-Link. Probably, a lot of devices mentioned in https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices are not flashable anymore.

I wanted to try DD-WRT specially because of its monitoring features.

In TP-Link I can not get a Time(x)-Bandwidth(y) graph chart, which can be used to diagnose ISP bandwidth fluctuations.

So, I am curious to know - Do you produce your own hardware with DD-WRT?

Downgrade the factory firmware (TP-Link firmware) first. Then try to upgrade to dd-wrt, using the factory-to-ddwrt file. Use the US version if you are in the US, The EU version if you are in the EU, TW - Taiwan, nothing is everywhere else. This much match the TP-Link firmware that is currently on the router. For the factory-to-ddwrt file see the link in my signature, I would use the latest as of this post, 37837.

Also, if that fails, you can TFTP firmware over to the router as well (using a TFTP server running on your computer, at 192.168.0.66). Post here, if you need help with TFTP.
