Hi, as an update to this topic. I have now just used the webinterface to upload the file provided by Koolshare and now Im back to the Stock Firmware without any big troubles.
Now, going t o DD-WRT on this unit...but first I need to change the Board_ID still since I just realized on the Label of the Router that this one is actually a R7900...

Next up check in the forum which is the best DD-WRT Version for the R8000.

Thanks for all the support so far.

Thanks for the update. I wondered if that may have been part of the caveats. Not sure if you can burnboardid in Koolshare; you may have to edit the CFE parameters and write a properly modified CFE to return it to a bonafide R8000. The problem is, if it has the Asus CFE, you have to make sure all applicable parameters are correct, or you may run into issues.

Apparently the CFE seems was not modified.
I have already upgraded to DD-WRT version 05-11-2021 I found here confirmed working.
I had to go to OpenwWRT first to be able to activate SSH to use Board-ID then.
It accepted my command but strangely after reboot it showed a different Board-ID then the one I have entered.
Nevertheless DD-WRT is running now and shows R8000 in the Status.

Now I need to test the wifi or maybe switch to the experimental driver and also setup the VLANs and VPN.

I will update in case I run into issues
