Hey everyone,
Not to long ago a buddy sent me his old wrt610n v2 that he had installed dd-wrt on. I love to tinker with stuff and being disabled it gives me a lot of time to do so. I did a lot of reading about this router and saw that it could be converted to an E3000. I followed the instructions that are listed on the official wiki here...... https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT610N_v2.0
but I borked it. I bought a cp2102 based USB to serial adapter, installed the drivers, soldered the wires where they needed to be, fired up mobaXterm and got a whole bunch of garbage in the terminal. I am including a pic of the terminal so if someone can give me an idea as to what I should try next, I would be very appreciative!

Maybe jtag can fix it but it isn’t worth it.
Thanks for the response! I know it wouldn't be worth it for a main router, but I was going to replace another router I am using as a bridged device in the living room seeing as this one had 2.4 and 5 Ghz.
As far as using a jtag is concered, would you happen to have an example of what to get? This would be my first time tinkering with router resurrection!
He has all the ideas about what you should buy to fix it. :p
Just wait he's the router resurrection genie.
He tried to resurrect a wrt610nv2 he obtained in a (crappy for him) sale/trade. I fubar(ed) it really well though.
Used it as a main just like he advised you against... Live and learn.
I even tried to avoid it by giving it some much needed airflow.
tldr; watch out these units can and will run very hot(design flaw).

Hey Malachi, (or anyone that can weigh in)
I have been doing a bunch of reading at all of those sites you listed so as to get familiar with using a JTAG cable with my router, but what I am not sure of is what cable I need for this unit. I see info on buffered and unbuffered, but not sure if one is required over the other. I visited DIYGADGET's site recently and they have several items in the JTAG section. I was hoping you could give me some insight on which one will do what I need for the least amount of money. Here is a link to that page.
Before you spend any money buying equipment to fix a router that you can buy for less than the equipment to fix it, I’d read up on what is involved in fixing the e3000 using jtag.
There are some tiny pads to have to bridge with solder or wir glue. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
