I dont understand why you think its working flawless? I have the same really bad bufferbloat on 4.9 kernel and 500mbs internet and 2-3 times better bufferbloat on 3.18. So, right now 3.18 is still far ahead of 4.9

most likely he does nothing that cares about latency, voip/gaming/video chats etc

Man, fq_codel seems significantly better than pie in my limited testing. With the same speed bandwidth settings, fq_codel always wins with much lower latency. I came across a couple research papers yesterday while trying to learn up on it, and both those papers showed that fq_codel typically has lower average and median latency than pie.

Does it just work better for certain connection types or something?

In my case as I understand you would need to setup and use it with Services Priority. For simple QoS of just checking the 4 tcp boxes fq_codel works better hence fq - fair queuing, which does also work with Services priority as well but more aggressively and cpu/bandwidth cost (3-5 Mbps).

Interesting info. I setup just a few services priority in my fq_codel config to prioritize DNS, FaceTime, AT&T VOIP, http_connect (which I *hope* is maybe the initial, new HTTP connection to a site to help initial page load and not something more than that, but darned if I could find any contemporary information on what all those L7 filters are defined as) and to classify as bulk bittorrent.

Thanks for that, Jerry. I'm happy with HTB & fq_codel at the moment, but I'm sure the tinkerer in my will play around with Pie again so I appreciate the info.

Seems to have cut bufferbloat avg's in half, down and up.

On my EA8500, the K3.18 kernel feels much snappier.
I'm only on ADSL2+ (15DL, 1UL) so I can only dream of some of your >100MBps DL speeds.
On top of that, I have an OpenVPN Client connected, which further reduces speed and adds latency + bufferbloat.
QoS HFSC+FQ_Codel seems most consistant.
Testing with VPN and Firefox addons disabled shows that QoS does improve things.
DSLReports are inconsistant between the K4.9 and K3.18 versions for me, but in use K3.18 feels quicker.
With so many variables (telco QoS, infrastructure (adsl, fibre, cable etc), router model etc, any optimization for one, ie Kong's setup, may not be optimal for others.

Thousands of TX/RX errors. QoS still behind 3.18

I switched to 37420 [10-21-18] K3.18 yesterday [uptime 1 day,2:08] to see if it was any better for my crappy internet and now this is showing many RX errors 0 TX errors all on ath1.1 almost no traffic there just her android.

I'm using the official 10/19 k3.18 on Kong repo so give that one a try

I've upgraded to r37490 but the release are coming out so quickly that I really haven't had time to test anything. In the course of 10 days, I went from 37015, through 37120 and 37420, to 37490 without any connectivity, latency, or other issues. I don't use QoS though. I am running YAMon.

Also, it seems the HTTPD errors may actually be decreasing in these newer releases but I'll have to do some more investigation to be sure.
