"Protected Management Frames (PMF) shields the client by using a security association teardown protection mechanism. The concept of Protected Management Frames was introduced in 2009, but can apply to all flavors of 802.11 (A,B,G, N, etc). It's support is supposed to be mandated for any WPA2 device that wants to use the WiFi Alliance logo."

In the stock Asus router firmware, there is a tri-state option:

- Off - the feature is disable
- Optional - if the STA supports the feature
- On - PMF is required

It sounds like I might want to use it along with WPA2 Personal, but I don't see PMF as an option in dd-wrt. Is it there somewhere as an option? If not, is it implemented by default?

The dd-wrt Protection Mode looks to be entirely different. It has available settings: None, CTS, RTS/CTS and serves to avoid packet collisions.
