I have a wrt3200acm router and need to go back onto both partitions with Linksys firmware after having dd-wrt firmware.

I am unable to switch between the two Linksys partitions after a successful Linksys GUI flash (atleast Linksys notified me it was successful).

I set the router password hint in Linksys GUI. The hint continues to show up even when doing the power recycle below which tells me (it seems) I am not on the other partition.

Is it not switching - why? Is it switching and keeping the changed setting(s)? How can I verify that both partitions have Linksys firmware from within Linksys?

I tried multiple times doing the power cycle and have been successful in the past: (on/off/on/off/on/off/on).

Thanks

That doesn't mean you haven't switched partitions. The settings would be applied to both Linksys firmwares on both partitions.

If, for example, you're planning to sell or give away your router and you want to be sure it's clean:
From Linksys GUI, manually upload the Linksys stock firmware. Because firmware updates always go to alternate partition you can be sure that both partitions have Linksys stock firmware back on them.

With router powered ON, hold reset button for 30 seconds (use a paperclip or similar)

Your router will now be as it was when you removed it from the box.

Thanks for you reply. I'm a novice please understand if I might be missing the point:

From your post what I understand is that after flashing from a Linksys GUI both partitions retain the same settings and are now identical. Both partitions keep the same config changes as well.

How can really be sure you know which partition you booted up on since they are always identical?

I can see if one partition held your current settings and the other partition resets to factory after a flash.

Whenever you upgrade from Linksys stock firmware to another version of the same the settings are carried over.
Same with DD-WRT & OpenWrt except they give an option to reset after upgrade that is disabled by default.

You can have DD-WRT or OpenWrt on one partition and Linksys on the other and have them both individually configured, but not with the same firmware on both.

With DD-WRT you can run SSH / Telnet command to see the current partition:
ubootenv get boot_part
However, it's been so long since I've run the standard stock Linksys firmware I don't remember if there is even SSH or Telnet access.
I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

The simplest way to know for sure is to flash the same firmware twice as it always goes to the alternate (inactive) partition.
Then reset.

Within ddwrt I was able to use the ubootenv to switch to the Linksys partition.

I get a connection failed trying to ssh/telnet to Linksys fw and saw no option to enable it like you can in ddwrt.

I factory reset twice and flashed Linksys fw twice as you suggested. However, I am still unable to tell which partition I am on when using Linksys firmware.

Is there a capability/trick? This would then allow me to know if in fact both have Linksys FW.

If you flashed Linksys firmware from Linksys GUI then you have Linksys stock firmware on both partitions.
The only way I can think of to actually see it would be to flash two different versions of Linksys firmware and then use 3x power switch partition swap to verify different version numbers.

Ok I tested using a previous fw build and it worked. Thanks for your posts. Wish there was a simpler way to do this like dd-wrt has it.

Note

1) to get a previous fw version from Linksys website
you have to go into release notes to find the fw #.
Then in the URL enter <download the URL site>\
<previous_FW#>_prod.img

2) you can get the <download the URL site> by right
clicking on the current download link and selecting
"Copy link address"

3) The _prod.img needs to be added.

4) use notepad to put the link together then paste it
into the URL. Otherwise if you do it in chunks the
browser will try and connect before you have all
URL together.

Hope this helps!
