This build thread is for reporting successes and problem with loading this experimental test build. This is important info for developers and users. Always state your hardware and SPECIFIC build (e.g. 29000_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k.bin). Do not ask questions about your specific router or how to configure it in this thread; create your own thread to discuss any specific problems you have or need resolved. Please also do not respond to such questions. This thread is to report info, not to seek it. Posts that do not add to understanding this build will be deleted. Make sure you know how to flash properly and the risk before using this build. It is important to adhere to these requirements, to keep this thread from becoming impossibly long and useless. If you don't know what build to flash and how to flash properly and have a means of recovery if things should go wrong, do NOT flash this experimental test build.

Router: 2x Linksys E3000
Firmware: dd-wrt.v24-36596_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000.bin
Previous: dd-wrt.v24-36410_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e3000.bin
Kernel: Linux 3.10.108-d5 #20484 Tue Aug 14 13:50:51 CEST 2018 mips
Status: Working as client bridges
Reset: No
Errors: None thus far

These E3000 units are running as client bridges, so pretty much everything is turned off that doesn't have to be on for a client bridge. But the speedtests actually are a tad bit faster than the previous build, pretty good. So far so good, will report back if anything pops up. Smile

Router/Version:  Linksys E4200 v1
Firmware:  DD-WRT v3.0-r36596 mega ( 08/14/18 )
Kernel:  Linux 3.10.108-d5 #20484 Tue Aug 14 13:50:51 CEST 2018 mips
Previous: DD-WRT v3.0-r36527 mega ( 08/09/18 )
Firmware file used: dd-wrt.v24-36596_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-e4200.bin
Reset; Yes; Reset via webUI (reboot), Firmware upgrade (httpd crash!) x2 (didn’t wait long enough to power cycle), (wait, power-cycled x2), configured previous settings manually (reboot)
Mode: Gateway/AP
Uptime: ~45 minutes
Status: OK
Issues/Errors: Still shaking the dust off from the ride. Is anyone ELSE having issues with httpd crashing during firmware upgrade? The countdown / upgrading page froze this time, even. Since previous brick, I've been running serial console, especially during firmware upgrades, and that has been the only way I've known to wait and power cycle these last few builds, thankfully. This time, I didn't wait long enough, and httpd somehow seemed to think it should still be running the upgrade process when it came back up and also crashed a second time somewhere in there. Gratuitous serial console and syslogs attached.

On the PLUS side, lsmod now works properly!

EDIT: Did a quick local speedtest with media streaming, even. I still think my ISP has bandwidth throttled, but considering WAN connects to ISP router via AC line adapters, there's also that Wink

EDIT#2: Got curious and checked DSLReports and Ookla:

Status: Working as a AC-only client bridge
Reset: No
Errors: None thus far

This router is running as an AC-only client bridge for my server network. It's loading my web pages fast and game servers are doing good, no lag. Seems like a pretty solid build.

The speed tests are done on the wired ports? I have been trying E3000 5Ghz client bridge + 2.4Ghz AP on the latest builds but internet keeps disconnecting. Do you have an AP configured?

Just to be sure, I tested 36596 micro_generic on the WRT54GSv6, and it still bricks. TFTP back to 36242, after reset, works fine.

I tried making a repeater, and it displayed the VAP name, but even with the right password, I couldn't connect. Even with no password I couldn't connect. 31899 is the latest I found that you can use to make a repeater and connect to the VAP to use it.

My 2 cents. Smile

All my computers have client bridges that connect to the main gateway (or server AP), so it's not really "wired", and it's not "wireless adapter", I've not had any issues with internet dropping on any of my routers though, ever.

What vpn is that? Quite the decrease in speed. Anonymity/encryption over speed.

@kernel-panic69 How is the wifi performance? Any issues with OpenVPN?

Wi-fi stability seems better, but I have NOT checked GTK re-key interval default setting-related disconnects, continuing to use the workaround and setting the interval to 0.

I don't use OpenVPN. I'm sure I'll get flack about _not_ using it, but I have my reasons Wink Rolling Eyes

Thanks !!

Anyone tried this on Netgear R6400 v2 (board U12H332T20)

The last update bricked my router and I am shy of being the first one to do it ... the new one is currently running on netgear firmware with all its limitations !!

I'll be the heckler here. "Don't be skurred!". After I bricked my E4200 v1 several builds ago and have been running with serial console, and I kinda laugh at it now. All part of the fun... "Flash it 'til it bricks!" Shocked
