Does anyone have a build recommendation for a WRT1900acsV2?

I had been on Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r28788 std (01/13/16) for the several years
but a few days ago I upgraded via dd-wrt to the 28-Jul webflash.bin image for r36410 which caused all sorts of connectivity issues. The real struggle was to get re-flashed back to the r28788 version which I was finally successful in doing. But now I'm having the issues with the internet connection staying up. I shelved my previous wrt1900acsv2 and bought a new one and flashed it with r28788 but the internet issue continues.

I've been using dd-wrt since 2009 when I installed it on my WRT54GS and have been extremely happy with the performance and capabilities. In 2016 I upgraded to the wrt1900acsv2 and the r28788 image which worked great until my ill-fated upgrade to r36410.

I look forward to any suggestions.

I was using 34311 for about 7 months as the new versions DLNA did not work...

The latest version 36410 that has working DLNA (Must restart DLNA after router boot) has been working fine for me since yesterday and restored DLNA functionality.

Now if you are asking about Wifi reliability I can't answer that as I use a secondary router for Wifi duties.

With a version jump that big when you do upgrade I would highly recommend a fresh install from Linksys firmware.
You may also have to downgrade or upgrade your Linksys firmware in order to get the DD-WRT flash to stick.

That is what I did, install from the Linksys Factory image. I first installed the latest dd-wrt image (36410) then after all the problems I went back to the factory image and flashed with the previous dd-wrt image I had been using (28788). Before the upgrade, the older image was working great. Now after going to 36410 and returning to 28788 the router is randomly dropping local connections and the internet. This why I am asking for what might be considered the best/stable image version for a wrt1900acsV2.

You can check each new build thread to see what others are reporting, but with an almost unlimited number of variables & environmental conditions, what works great for someone else may not work well at all for you.
The only sure-fire way to know what build is best for you is to start with the most recent and work your way back.

OK, I upgraded to build r31899 (04/21/17)and performance has been pretty much the same. Every 30-35 minutes I loose internet connectivity. Using PingPlotter and pinging my routers gateway I see the following. The gray area is where I closed pingplotter. The red lines are where connectivity was lost. What ever is causing this it pretty much keeps to a schedule.

Any ideas???

OK, I upgraded to build r35898 in hopes to eliminate the problems but they are still occurring. I have determined that it is not just the connectivity dropping the router itself is rebooting every 18-19 minutes. Has anyone ever seen this behavior before?

Another thing I noticed is the system temperatures:

CPU 73.6 °C / WL0 46.8 °C / WL1 48.1 °C

73.6C seems high to me and could possible be the source of the reboots.

Last year I had temps as high as 83C on my WRT1900ACSv2 during the summer when my indoor temperature was set to 78F. That is when I decided to add a fan...Now my router runs at about 57C in the winter and about 61C in the summer months. However I did not have reboot issues even when it was running hot.

Like Spurious said everybody's setup is different and what can make a big difference is what type of internet connection you have. Also the WiFi on these routers has never been super stable (The driver is the fault of the manufacturer not DD-WRT). I have Wifi disabled on my WRT router and use a secondary Netgear router for Wifi purposes which is more centrally located. (I've wired my entire house with ethernet).

If you are able you could try disabling WiFi and run solely on ethernet and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't then you know you've ruled out that. Then you can try disabling other stuff that you may have enabled and see if that makes a difference. You can also contact your ISP and tell them the trouble you are having with your router and see if they have any particular information that may be helpful...If you are using a VPN you can try disabling that and see if that may be the culprit.

It's difficult to pin down and requires step by step until you find the solution. It's also complicated by DD-WRT itself as idiosyncrasies vary from version to version. For instance I'm running the latest version now and it's been running well except that twice in the last week my VOIP adapter has lost connection. Each time I rebooted the router the problem was corrected (I reboot daily anyway).

My previous image had a scheduled cron job to reboot once a week. I guess during the upgrade process the cron job was corrupted and executing the reboot every 18 minutes even though the cron still listed the reboot as once a week. Its 33 minutes and counting since the last reboot.

FWIW, I've been running 34315 on my WRT1900ACSv2 since that version came out, although curiously, it has since been removed from the ftp site. My 5GHz modem is nonfunctional - it used to work but died at some unknown point - but everything else I've tried seems fine. (I'm not enough of an expert to know how to monitor performance in any decent way.) I have several nonbridged VAPs running, in various "isolation" configurations, and one of them is tunneled through the vpn client using pbr and with an iptables kill switch in place. No random reboots or other obvious weirdness.

However, recently I tried to modernize and failed completely. I put, in turn, 36330, 36247, and 36154, picked more at less at random (i.e. incompetently), on the other partition, and even tried resetting and re-entering all the configuration by hand. In every case, I had no connection to the internet. Lacking the knowledge to debug, I finally just retreated back to my good old 34315.

Quick Update: 5 GHz is now working fine using AC/N Mixed on channel 36(UU) with VHT80 and short preamble. What helped was https://imgur.com/a/15gOfHt, suggested by jerrytouille. Smart TV connected instantly at 780 Mbps (download), and things have worked fine for several days.

I left Tx power set at 0 dBm, but in wireless status I can see it ends up at 23 dBm. No surprise, as 24 dBm would slightly exceed the US FCC limit of 250 mW for this channel (can't recall where I heard about that limit). Re channel selection, this five-year-old page is enlightening (YMMV):

Unfortunately, the WRT1900ACSV2 and everything thereafter has the transmit power locked to the region code and channel.
It's hard-coded into the router and cannot be changed, even with open-source firmware.

Im following along watching what is going on with these newer builds closely. I experienced a problem when a device was connecting and that somehow grew. I flashed the latest build and it worked fine but then wireless was cutting out every min or so and then wired started having issues. I followed a 'clean' install and it seemed to work for a short bit but the problems came back. Im now back on the stock linksys software (which really limits my ability to watch the network). No problems so far and speeds are all fast.
