A lot of concern over CPU Temperatures lately. Hopefully, this will clear the air.

The CPU Idle feature was recently disabled in DD-WRT because of problems with the newer Kernels (Changeset 36168). This is why many of you have noticed higher CPU temps.

I have verified that CPU Idle has also been disabled in OpenWrt/LEDE as well as Linksys WRT32X stock Venom firmware.

You can see for yourself in the log with Telnet/SSH Command:
dmesg | grep mvebu

CPU Temp can be viewed at Status Tab - Router Sub Tab - CPU Section.
*There are three separate temperature values taken at three different points on or near the CPU.
Note: All temperature readings are in degrees Celcius.

Formula to convert Celcius to Fahrenheit: T(°F) = T(°C) × 1.8 + 32

While not necessary, if you would like to keep your WRT router's CPU temperatures down I highly recommend adding a fan. One or two 80mm component fans is plenty and will run very quietly non-stop for years.
They run off a 5V 1A USB adapter (included). Same as any mobile device charger.

Sometimes I set mine on top of a laptop cooler and it does are really good job cooling the router. But not everyone has enough room for a laptop cooler. I have been toying with a 92mm usb powerd fan mounted on top of my wrt3200acm. Now my room temp is 26.7C and cpu is at 58C with the top mounted fan.

The AC Infinity 120mm is awsome! It's sitting on top of the router, temps went from roughly 67-68C down to 58-59C.

Just want to reiterate what was posted. These CPU's are rated to 115C. Which means you do not need any active cooling.

Anything done is for entertainment purposes only. I doubt your packets are routing any faster. If anything, you are just promoting dust buildup inside your router, with or without a filter.

Now down to 55C, woo hoo! I'm excited, it's very hot where I'm at Wink

Three WRT1200AC v2 running r36247

75C, 71C and 66C

Ambient air temp in my home is usually around 74-76F

The one at 75C is my main router, doing all the routing for the LAN and VPN tunnel to PIA, the other two are just acting as additional APs throughout the home.

I could care less about trying to make them run cooler.

Agree 100%. Those and even the 80's some see are just fine. No issues. Most folks are used to the PC CPU temps and not the temps in things like routers.
