Hi,

I already have my OpenVPN account connected in the router, but the IP address isn't changing like it should.

Does anyone know why or if having the router in AP mode will affect this at all? This is an AP...

OpenVPN Status: Connected

Using this guide: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/vpn-setup/manual-config-for-dd-wrt-router-with-openvpn/

What are you using to verify that your IP address has changed? Your WAN IP displayed in the DD-WRT GUI will not change with a VPN.
You need to use an external site such as:

Finally got this figured out, but I haven't figured out my IP addressing.

The router will not work (internet or VPN) with it set as Auto DHCP, Gateway, and Router on unless I put it in its own network (e.g. 10.0.0.1 is first network, 10.0.1.1 is ddwrt network).

I cannot get VPN to work when router works as a bridge/switch, and cannot get it back into switch mode to test again.

Cannot communicate between my 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.1.1 network, but my WAN IPv4 is 10.0.0.179 (in my first network). So, IDK.

Well, now I've bricked it.

I tried to flash a version of OpenWRT for the Linksys WRT3200ACM, and all I get is a flashing power light...

How to manually upload to the router the old image. I know there's got to be a way; I've bricked routers before Smile

Stop flashing!

First: you should be able to recover by using the 3x power switch partition swap.
Second: OpenWrt & DD-WRT have images specifically for the WRT32X. Do not use anything else.

Before you go any further read the Tutorial (top link below, in my signature). Even if you are very familiar with flashing open-source firmware - it doesn't hurt to refresh your memory.

It's in the Tutorial, but here's the steps:

Using the router’s power switch – turn OFF then turn back ON.
Wait 2 seconds then turn OFF.
Turn back ON.
Wait 2 seconds then turn OFF.
Turn back ON.
Router should have booted into opposite partition.

DD-WRT for the WRT32X:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2018/06-29-2018-r36247/linksys-wrt32x/

Flashing from Linksys Venom GUI, use: FW_WRT32X_1.0.666_DDWRT.img
*Before flashing DD-WRT read this post:

Here's the link to a great OpenWrt/LEDE build for the WRT32X:

Flashing from Linksys Venom GUI, use: lede-mvebu-cortexa9-linksys-wrt32x-squashfs-factory.img

What benefits does OpenWRT offer over dd-wrt?

The VPN provider I use prefers to use OpenWRT builds to provide to clients...

They each have their own merits. Personally I prefer DD-WRT, but OpenWrt works very well.
DD-WRT is easier to setup & use where OpenWrt requires the installation of packages.

Try each one out and decide what works best for your needs.

I would definitely recommend keeping the Linksys Stock Venom Firmware always available on one partition. It makes switching back and forth between the two much easier.

So, I can use the 3x method to switch back to the original firmware if I haven't flashed it already?

I haven't ever swapped partitions to flash...

Yes, but I honestly don't know if it's such a good idea to keep using the power switch over & over.
There is another way that I outlined in the Tutorial. Look under the section: What to do If something goes wrong.

I tried to do the 3x power switch thing and read your thread, but it is still dd-wrt that loaded up.

Next, can you tell me how to properly address my network so that I can communicate between routers? I have a 10.0.0.1 (modem/router)>SwitchA>10.0.1.1/10.0.0.179? ddwrt router

You definitely don't want to switch to the other partition right now since that one is soft-bricked.
Just to be absolutely certain: your current partition is running a correct version of DD-WRT and the alternate partition has the WRT3200ACM firmware.
Is this accurate?
