I am looking to use the USB port on the WNDR3400v1 wireless router for NAS (Network Attachment Storage). It currently has the DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) mini (build 21061) firmware version on it. I understand that it needs to be upgraded to either big or mega for the USB port to be used to set up an external hard drive for NAS. My questions are, which one (big or mega) supports the usage of NTFS partition? Do they both support NTFS? I also read that the WNDR3400v1 router does not take the big version of the DD-WRT firmware. The router will brick if the big version is to be installed. Can anyone confirm this?

It has 8MB flash, so ya k3x big won't work, and yes I think k3x mega doesn't have NTFS. It is the case for k26 [outdated, but generally still accurate].

k26 big will work though, and someone stating recently it still supports NTFS, though k26 USB is supposed to have issues; you can try it though. If trying k3x, use build 36168 for now, or wait for the next one (after 36242) and read the build thread to check stability. For k26, the latest build should be fine.

I currently have dd-wrt.v3.0-r35531_mega-nv64k (03/26/18 ) on my WNDR3400v1

Although it is stable WiFi and all
Under the Services tab in webif it does not have a USB nore a NAS tab
I even plugged in a hd and rebooted router to extra confirm

So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the 8Mb flash of at least the k3.x builds for the WNDR3400v1 unfortunately are not going to serve your needs
Hope this helps
