Edited because I got R7000 working again on dd-wrt.

I would like to try Kong firmware as I have never used it before and I think I would like to experiment with some of the add-on software that using that firmware enables.

My question is about first Kong firmware upload...

Is it like BS firmware in that the first time, I have to use a .chk file or can a .bin file be used as the first non-Netgear upload?

Next question...

I am not finding what I want when searching. Can I just switch from BS to Kong or do I need to return to Netgear firmware and then try Kong?

You can flash a Kong Build directly from BS.
