I've seen a whole bunch of posts here talking about using SoftEther in dd-wrt, but I don't see it at all as an option in dd-wrt in current BS builds?

I've just checked the latest build and installed it on my RT-AC87U and there is no option for softether in the Services > VPN tab? I tried enabling JFFS and that didn't have any impact either.

Has SoftEther been removed? What was the last build that it was present?

SoftEther is still listed under the VPN tab in the most recent BS build for my WRT1200AC.

What hardware are you using? Maybe you are using a device with limited flash storage and the SoftEther had to be dropped to make space for other more popular features.

RT-AC87U which has 256mb RAM and 128mb Flash

I'm baffled. It actually shows up in your Services -> VPN tab and it says 'SoftEther'?

All I see are OpenVPN options and PPTP options on my web GUI.

Do I have to follow some other steps to enable it and get it showing in the GUI?

Kong removed softether because there were security issues, maybe BS also removed it in later builds.

They are considering WireGuard

Main problem was SSL which was not updated by softether that has been corrected by now, but Kong was still not satisfied that is why he incorporated ipsec see: http://tips.desipro.de/

Any idea exactly what was the last build from BS that did have SoftEther? I love Kong's builds, but he doesn't support the AC87U so I can't use that.

FWIW - I also do have an AC68U that I use somewhere else and I run Kong and use his IPSEC implementation. So if BS could incorporate the IPSEC KONG is using that would also be a good solution.

I am on the latest BS build DD-WRT v3.0-r36104 std (06/10/1Cool on a WRT1200AC and softether is still there. If it is functional, I dont know. I've never used it before

And the plot thickens...

I installed that same build on AC87U and there was no softether...

EDIT: I've tried installing a variety of builds going all the way back to September 2017 on this AC87U and never found a SoftEther option.

What am I missing???

Well this still seems to be missing from even this last weeks BS build releases.

Anyway to get confirmation if this is something that will never be supported on the AC87U for some strange reason? Or is it just a broken dependency in the build scripts and I might get softether sometime?

If it is never going to work, I need to sell the AC87U and get another router that does offer SoftEther with the BS builds.

Worst case, you could use Entware to install Softether. Granted no GUI, but sometimes using the CLI offers more control and options anyway.

EDIT: This actually worked and wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. WebGUI access sure would be a heck of a lot easier though.
