Hello, my fellow forum participants. I just purchased a shiny new TP-Link Archer C7 to replace my WR1043ND that had failed a firmware update.

I use PureVPN, and just contacted their support who advised they do NOT support the V5. The DD-WRT router page doesn't have the v5, so I come on here to find an easy solution.

I have read this thread, and am a little more confused that I was!

LOL

What is the latest build? How do I determine chipset? and how do I install the DD-WRT firmware (easy method)

Please help!

Cheers,
Rick

I just bought the C7v5 (Canada). I used the factory-to-ddwrt (September 7) image for flashing. It flashed fine. I did NOT do the "reset to factory defaults" through the DDWRT admin pages. The router is running fine since the past 24h since I flashed it.

So, the process for the C7v5 would be:
1. Reset C7v5 to defaults using the reset button only, unless its fresh out of the box Smile
2. Flash factory-to-ddwrt image
3. DO NOT reset to defaults via DDWRT admin pages nor do a 30/30/30
4. All will be well.

Just wanted to share my experience.

Could you find one? My connection is 1000mb/s and I only get 70. With stock firmware it was reaching at least 300.

Need more info to help...is that wifi or wired speed?

Regardless, with "gig' speed internet, you will never get good speeds....this is a single core cpu router... the only thing you can do to get better speed is not to run QoS services and make sure the shortcut forward engine (SFE) is turned on under the main setup tab. This will allow you to reach the full potential of this router. As for best wifi settings...see my signature for things to do.

Client of mine purchased a new set of Archer c9 devices. Hardware version is v5.0

Items of note that I've seen:
1. OpenVPN has been added but I have not been able to activate it yet
2. WDS has been removed - not sure why - perhaps TP-Link is moving to a different product for mesh usage
3. Parental Controls have been added
4. The menus have been completely reorganized - much more confusing now I think
5. Printer server has been added as a configurable item from the USB port

In the interest of time, I'm not going to flash this one since I don't think DD-WRT supports it yet. I will have to forgo the usage of the WDS unless they bundled it elsewhere.

Will update you on the results.

This is the C7 thread, not the C9 thread:

Hello again. It seems there is WDS in the router v5 ac1900 by tp-link but it is very confusing and hard to set up because they have tried to make things automated without explaining what process achieves what result. In addition, enabling WDS does not request a reboot but apparently, WDS will not work without a reboot. I've set up all the settings but the WDS in the summary is still disabled. Attempting reboot now, but it does not matter. I think the DD-WRT method is easier to understand. In this version, they're allowing connections from the WDS radio to regular clients as well as to the other router over the same mode (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Your mileage may vary. Please feel free to create the updraded TP-LINK firmware for DD-WRT for v5.

Hardware: TPLink Archer C7v5
Kernel: Linux DD-WRT 3.18.140 #49340 Tue Aug 6 03:25:06 +04 2019 mips DD-WRT

I upgraded from factory firmware: 1.0.7 Build 20181210 rel.54182(5553)

To r38060 - (factory-to-ddwrt.bin) successfully
Then r41986 - (tplink_archer-c7-v5.bin) with NVRAM reset

upon loading r41986, Wi-Fi settings disappeared from the web portal, the ath interface is missing, and errors are showing up in dmesg (pasted below).

I tried r41113, r40559, r38060 (factory-to-ddwrt.bin), r38060(tplink_archer-c7-v5.bin) since then and my Wi-Fi has been gone ever since that r41986 upgrade.

I've been doing NVRAM Resets with each upgrade.

Somehow my AP has been left in a state where the Wi-Fi drivers won't load for ANY version of DDWrt now.

Is there a way to bring it back to life?

SOLVED! It turns out I ordered a C7 but got an A7. I had been loading C7v5 firmware onto my A7v5. Apparently the Wi-Fi chip is different and so although the DDWrt code loaded and I could ssh to the device etc, wifi was broken until I loaded the correct ddwrt model firmware onto my A7v5. Currently running r40900 and I am happy to report my Wireless tab is back, and things are working again. Will test further this week.

This worked very well for me for restoring original firmware after of a friend's router:

The only differences are:
- Filename: ArcherC7v5_tp_recovery.bin
- Recovery mode: power up the router with both reset and WPS button pressed

I had to put a switch between the computer and the router because my TFTP server was not listening on the network interface when the router came up.

I'm trying to revert to factory default my Archer C7 V5, but after doing all the steps, I see it doesn't response after pressing reset and power. I see no logs in the TFTPD sofware, like if is not connecting. Ethernet IP is correct. I wonder how did you to this?

Many thanks and regards
