I have read the peacock thread, installation wiki, and been through the available builds on the FTP site. I have a TRENDnet TEW-828DRU. I don't see any router specific install instructions so based on the info I could find I did the following:
- Update to the latest version of the manufacturer's firmware.
- Hard reset (30/30/30)
- Flash with latest build I could find.
- Hard reset

I could not connect with a wired connection. Only one of the 5ghz radios was identified and I could not enable it. I was able to connect with the 2.4ghz radio. After digging in the forum and online for a while I decided to cut my losses and reflashed with the manufacturer's firmware. It took a couple tries, but I have it back to the default firmware and working correctly.

Any ideas what I could do differently to get dd-wrt to work on this device?

Maybe don't use the latest. Also where are you finding the latest.
Read through the various new release threads and see if anyone with the same router is using said build.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to find similar results from others without luck, so I figured I would ask the community.
To answer your question, I found the newest build in the FTP site. Just went to the newest folder because there is no device specific instructions and the database is not reliable (from what I have found in the forums).
Not trying to be snarky, but any suggestions to find known good builds for this device other than trial and error?

Thanks for the replies jwh7 and Malachi. After digging through forums more this weekend it seems like this router is technically capable of leveraging DD-WRT, but it is extremely finicky/inconsistent about it. Maybe when I decide to replace it, I will play with it again.
Unless there is something that changes, it will be staying on the stock firmware until then.
