I wonder if it would be possible for some kind person to inform BrainSlayer about the problem of flashing via the Web of these two routers to solve it in future versions.
On the DIR-615, resetting to defaults with the flash procedure is broken. After the flash procedure completes, there is no status completion message. All it does is display a blank webpage. I ended up having to power cycle the router to get it to come back up. After power cycling, I was able to get into the GUI and all the old settings were there but the firmware did successfully flash. Out of curiousity, I flashed back to r35667. Then I flashed r35681 again, and same thing. Resetting to defaults is broken; the firmware flashes but there is no confirmation message and I had to power cycle the router. Once again, I flashed r35667. Then I erased the NVRAM before flashing r35681. IIRC, the reset to defaults option did take effect so it appears there is an issue with values stored in the NVRAM. What exactly? I don't know.
On the WDR3600, a blank page also loads after the flash proceedure. Then once the flash procedure is complete, the router doesn't reboot itself fully. I could have found out where it was getting stuck if I had the UART connected, but I didn't need to go that far. The star LED flashes after flashing r35681, and it will do that infinitely until the router is power cycled. I flashed back to the prior version and did all the same steps, which included erasing the NVRAM before and after flashing, and resetting to defaults. Same thing. Blue star LED flashes until router is power cycled.
Also there was some weirdness with the WDR3600 in WDS AP mode with no wireless encrytion set. The WDS stations can't connect until WPA2 encryption is set on the WDR3600 and the wireless stations. Even after reboots of all routers mentioned, the stations were only able to connect after encryption was enabled.

I've been using dd-wrt since 2014. I like the project very much and have the software installed om my r7000 and my r9000. However I do experience a degrading quality since 2016. Bigger and bigger features are not delivered opon. In this last update, the dhcp through the radio didn't work. I still use release 05-19-2016-r29739 since later releases is to buggy for usage.
Also, if you are coming from such an old build reset to defaults is necessary.
Don't complain about DD-WRT quality. It is free software, you get what you get. _________________ Before asking a question on the forums, update dd-wrt: Where do I download firmware? I suggest reading it all.
