Hello.

I have router Netgear WNR3500Lv1 and after I made firmware upgrade to ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/12-29-2017-r34311/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-34311_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk it seems as half bricked as lan is not working I am just able to connect via wifi to admin the router but internet is not working. I tried to upgrade stock firmware but is says upgrade fail and then if I try anything larger what I used to earlier and succesfully was flashed like WNR3500L-V1.2.2.48_35.0.55.chk it fails after few seconds as it is probably not possible to flash via WIFi, any help please?

I used to flash dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk few times without any problems but this time I wanted to try newer version and found this topic https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=311850 where 2 people confirmed working firmware and just 3rd had a problem:
Quote:
Are you also confirming that dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin works on WNR3500Lv1? I recently tested dd-wrt.v24-33607_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin on WNR3500Lv1 and only a wifi connection to the router could be made all lan/wan ports are broken.

I should be aware of that but now is it too late and I have the same problem as I can only log in to admin by WIFI. If I connect my desktop or notebook to any of the lan ports it does not work.

Admin:

Can somebody please help me to solve this issue either make the lan working or be able to flash firmware via wifi.

Thank you guys!

Solved by standard cmd method and flashed to stock firmware.

Could somebody advice me the newest and working firmware for my router?

Thank you.

Edit: missed your reply, after my 2hr conference call..but I'd try 21061 k2.6 mini .chk followed by the K3X mega 33555. Reset and manual set up. Always check build size if you upgrade from there.

Did you try a GUI reset? You -can- flash from wireless, you just shouldn't if you don't have to; just make sure your signal is good (no packets getting dropped) and no other nearby wireless radios. The better way would be to telnet in and wget the firmware into /tmp then flash the linux partition from there. If a reset doesn't help, I would suggest using dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin from the thread you mentioned, as others have had success with it.

jwh7, thank you for the reply. I do not why but I was unsuccessful flashing via Wi-fi as the connection was interupted just by 1-2 seconds since the flashing have started. I gave that method and exactly as you suggested, used telnet and it went without any problem.

I am going to try the suggest built as I used few in the past and I recently had a problem as when I started downloading a file and it took all my bandwith (50 Mbit) the router was not responding any other commands so I could not even browse simply web pages till the download had finnished. When I logged to shell and was watching processes I found out when I started the download and when it went to full speed the processor went to 100 %. When I stopped the download or limited the speed up to something like 3 MB (24 Mbit) it immediately the cpu usage went down and everything was smooth but when I resumed the download to full speed the heavy cpu load happened again.

So I will try the suggested version and report the result here.

I've just read again https://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Netgear_WNR3500L and there is strong message to use just K26v as WN3500lv2 is using k3x builds.

When I go t ftp - ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/10-20-2017-r33555/broadcom_K3X/

I see only .chk files for 3500Lv2 or U version but not WN3500Lv1.chk

I am double checking not to waste more time to use unsupported build and then wasting your or any of kind people who spend their time here and help.

So if it is correct should I use to flash first .chk file from here https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

and then the suggested ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2017/10-20-2017-r33555/broadcom_K3X/dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin

Thank you for your help.

Since K3X builds used to be too large to fit, a build target was never added to recognize the model (that's why it shows the default WRT54G stuff) and create a .chk for it. The .bin has no header, as DD doesn't care about it.

Regarding your CPU usage observation, I noticed 100% usage issues when upgrading my in-laws WRT54GLv1.1 running 33772. After a reboot and upgrade to 34311, it's been fine. I'm not sure what the exact size limit is for the 3500L; for K3.x_mega.bin, 33555 is 7606272 while 34311 is 7618560. Still under the 7.3MB limit that someone mentioned, so should be fine...no mention in the New Build thread yet.

I also forgot to mention, K3X builds (kernel 3.10) support SFE accelerated NAT, so will increase max internet throughput, and can reduce latency a little (in exchange for using more CPU).

I did it exactly as I used to and exactly as you wrote it (chk file, then bin file) - dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin

Unfortunately I got to the same problem again. LAN not working and I could see it even on the router. The main diod for LAN stayed orange. At least I can go back to stock in few min so I reflashed to stock again.

There are main pictures of dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin

(Router recognized as Linksys)

I think people are messing WNR3500Lv1 together with WNR3500Lv2 (There is probably also U version...) or I really do not know what am I doing wrong as I used to flash older builds without any problems.

Any suggestion please?

You never said...did you do a reset after flashing the .bin file? I recall seeing a thread about a newer build killing the LAN, but adjusting the VLAN parameters in nvram fixed it.

Yes, I did the 30-30-30 reset after final flashing of bin file. Ok, I did it like 15-15-15 if you think there might be a problem I can try it again but as I did twice and earlier never had a problem to flash dd-wrt it might be a time waster.

Don't recall offhand...that would take some searching.

You got the new password prompt and settings erased, right?

Ok, going the other way...some routers don't work right after resetting with k3x (DD k3x adds nvram space, and some routers don't handle the reset correctly). Though, you said this also occurred on a recent k26 build? Did you notice if LAN was working prior to the reset?

I am sorry I can't remember if I had the same problem with K26 build, I surely have not the problem with dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk. EDIT: I meant dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_nas.bin

Should I try K26 build now as if it should be working, right?

What build do you suggest to try, please?

OK, I did twice reflash to be sure and both attempts failed with the same problem - no lan.

I tried again dd-wrt.v24-33555_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega and this 2nd attempt I tried dd-wrt.v24-31221_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_usb.bin. The 2nd attempt I went precisely reset after flashing stock firmware, reset after flashing .chk file, reset after flashing .bin file, all precise 30-30-30 and all attempts finished the same state. Of course, both flashes of dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk were succesfull.

I am adding router diodes picture - I already know the state when it is finishing rebooting - green = status OK

orange + wps on = Fail, lan not working.

I am done for today and I really start to think there is false confirmation of work by people who are having WNR3500U or WNR3500Lv2.

If is there any LATELY confirmed working build for WNR3500Lv1 please post it here and I try it. I searched today and found some working confirmation years old and since then just the topic with probably false confirmations (the 3rd link in the first post in this topic).

Tomorrow I try to find working build from 2014 and later to start from finnally working build so we can move on.

Still, thanks for help, jwh7.

Well, well ... I tried dd-wrt.v24-28586_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin (late/2015) ... working, so I continued by dd-wrt.v24-30880_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega.bin (late/2016) not working so I tried K3.x version - dd-wrt.v24-30880_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin ... not worki..wait.. I suddenly noticed I have wi-fi off and I am working in web admin, so I am connected by LAN .. but why is there the main diode indicator still orange on the router as it should be green?

I have router in another room with internet connection so I set it up like usual , rebooted and still the main diode is orange not green as used to be but I tried connection and it is working!

I am testing cpu load while heavy downloading and it is working like a charm so the bug is gone.

Now I will try the newest builds again as there should be some important statement in the changes that the main diode indicator is changed to orange not green anymore as It is misleading then. Or did I miss that?

NOT WORKING

I can finally confirm the latest build - dd-wrt.v24-34311_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin is working on Netgear WNR3500Lv1.

I used to have high cpu load while downloading with some older builds and this build is bug free so I do not have this problem anymore.

I am going to test USB, NAS, VPN, install YAMon3 and maybe other and I will post the result here. Then I will try to reflash router to stock and the newest one to prove it was all made by my mistake and change of an indicator of lan connection on the router from green light to orange.

Till confirmation, if anybody is following this topic or is coming from future Smile try to flash by this procedure as I was able to make it work.

1) stock firmware - Version 1.2.2.48 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WNR3500Lv1#download
2)Webflash for 1st installation - dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk - https://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Netgear/WNR3500L/v1/dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk/4056
3)dd-wrt.v24-30880_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega.bin - ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/11-14-2016-r30880/broadcom_K3X/
4)flash what you want to try.

I thought you'd tried that build before? Or were you mislead by the LEDs? I presume from your procedure that your step 4 was flashing 34311 K3X mega? For posterity, at which points did you reset (and hard or GUI?)?

Don't pay attention to LED operation in DD-WRT, at least, certainly don't compare them to OEM firmware. When it in the bootloader (like if bricked) it will be the same either way, but DD builds often ignore LED operation. There is a way that you can test/change it though, using gpio; search for a wiki. Also, uses the "proper" (so I've read) 100Mb/s vs gigabit coloring, often backwards from OEMs.
