My builds can be downloaded from this link:

https://app.box.com/s/b4v1s342ef2dpd52j02lqtuzi1oiipco

Code:

Router Model Dlink-DIR880L
Previous Firmware DD-WRT v3.0-r37442 std (10/19/18)
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r37582b quarkysg-std (11/15/18)
Kernel Version Linux 4.4.162 #36 SMP Sun Nov 11 14:56:31 +08 2018 armv7l
Flashed from WebGui No reset
AP mode with VAP fixed
Reboot loop fixed

I have firmware v3.0-r34929c and I tried the most current 880L firmware from the site and your build "ddwrt-webflash-dir868-880-r38132a-patched.bin". However when I try to update it always seems to hang or fail. Have to do a 30-30-30 reset to get back to the firmware I have. I switched from Chrome to Firefox but that didn't change much. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Strange, I updated to r38132a via firefox, got a failed update message, logged in and its showing "v3.0-r38132a quarkysg-std" for the firmware. Should I do another 30-30-30 reset, standard reboot/reset or will this run ok?

If you already see the upgraded version, it should be upgraded now. So your router should be ok for use.

Any chance of upgrade version beyond r38132a?

I haven’t been spending time on the Broadcom routers lately. My attention was diverted to the Netgear R7800. The recent changes committed by the devs doesn’t seem to benefit the Broadcom Northstar routers as well. In any case I’ll continue to upload my builds when I build them.

The official firmware should be safe to use. Just that workaround will be required if you are using VAP and/or you need PBR + SFE. The kernel modules I uploaded still can be used to work-around the PBR + SFE problem.

I'm thinking of re-purposing my DIR-880L as a wireless bridge with DD-WRT. When I've done this in the past I've found that anything behind the DD-WRT bridge fails to see my DLNA server.

I'm not familiar enough with networking terms to know if VAP or the PBR + SFE problems are what I experienced.

Thoughts? Also, how hard is it go back to stock firmware after DD-WRT?

Thanks in Advance.

What version did you use?

Did you use quarkysg firmware to move to dd-wrt then upgrade to kong's latest?

Thanks!

At the moment I am successfully using

Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r39715 std (05/03/19)
Kernel VersionLinux 4.4.179 #175 SMP Fri May 3 07:58:28 CEST 2019 armv7l

No I did not use quarky's version to migrate to DD-WRT, although I have used it in the past.

Hi quarksg, I tried to flash my D-Link DIR-880L running Current Firmware Version: 1.20, Fri 21 Dec 2018. When I tried to flash the factory-to-ddwrt firmware file, the router responded with "Firmware upgrade failed".
What can I do to move forward?

I would suggest flashing the factory-to-ddwrt firmware via the Emergency Recovery utility of your DIR-880L. I think newer versions of stock firmware checks for signed firmware or something to that effect, making it impossible to flash third party firmware via the stock firmware upgrade page.

Also, make sure you use the correct factory-to-ddwrt image for your DIR-880L. Different router have different firmware signature, which I think the firmware upgrade page checks as well.

i tried to flash with the above firmware(factory-to-ddwrt.bin for the DIR-880L version A1), and while the d-link GUI (firmware 1.07WW 2016-2-26) states firmware upload is complete (and I gave the router several more minutes), I am unable to get the router working - powering it up while pinging I get:
Code:

Reply from 192.168.0.2: Destination host unreachable.
 Reply from 192.168.0.1: TTL=100 (* 2)
 Request timed out (* 6)
Reply from 192.168.0.2: Destination host unreachable.

power light on continuously except for a 1 second off/on several seconds after power on. internet connection light red continuously.

I used the emergency firmware recovery to reinstall the D-Link/OEM firmware (and went through the whole process again with the same result).

I cannot see a way to do a hard-reset on this router (instead that would initiate the emergency firmware recovery as above).

Any thoughts? I could try installing the binary via the emergency recovery page as suggested in the previous post, but that was for a different problem I am not experiencing.

Thank you

below is tken from http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=74029.0 and slightly adjusted for DIR-880L

    1. the stock firmware binaries can be downloaded at https://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-880L.

    2. Unplug the cable from the Internet port.

    3. Turn off the DIR-890L. Hold in the reset button with a paperclip and then power on while holding the reset button down.

    4. Wait about 10 seconds and release.

    5. Statically assign your computer an IP address of 192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0.

    6. Open a web browser. From personal experience, use FireFox. I had issues with Chrome and IE 11 for some reason. If you fail loading the firmware, repeat step 3-5 and use a different browser.

    7. Go to http://192.168.0.1. The Firmware Recovery page should appear. If not, Try step 3 again. Note this may take a few tries to work.
