Any Routers w/o Diminished Throughput When Operated as AP??

I'm stumped both my WRT1900 units exhibit diminished performance when operated as an AP. Can anyone here affirm their model router doesn't exhibit diminished wireless when operated as an AP???

My observation has been
Router WLAN PC -> AP WLAN PC … 2GB file transfer = 2-4 MB/s YUCK

AP WLAN to Router LAN = 40MB/s
Router WLAN to AP LAN = 40MB/s
Router WLAN to Router attached storage = 40MB/s
WLAN to WAN on either router or AP via speedtest.net = 240mbps ~ 30MB/s

I spent hours trying to prove the poor performance was my error to no avail.

Have you reverted the routers roles to check it wasn't related to that specific version?
