Does anyone have any experience with installing on a Netgear R6800 (AC1900)? The guy at the shop told me that it's a rebrand of the current Nighthawk (r7000) to a high end consumer model.
Should I assume that it's equally as compatible?
***Also a noob question - What would happen if I try to use the r7000 .chk file on this router? Will it brick the router?

No. These (R6700v2 / R6800 / R6900v2) are completely different, none of them has dd-wrt support and definitely won't get it soon. An R7000P is of the same family, but is also not supported yet.

Send me a file if you want a beta tester. I have a couple R7200s which are hardware identical to the R6800 and R6700v2. I have installed a serial port on one of them, and am comfortable with the nmrp recovery process on these routers if bricked (openwrt back in April).
Wow, this is great news! I got these routers from sale but failed to notice they don't support DD-WRT. I've been using them for a while now and the stock firmware isn't that impressive.
There's also a weird compatibility issue with Oculus Quest 2 with this router which I'm hoping to resolve with DD-WRT.
Just a quick check before I update from fellow R6800 owners. Are there any big issues with the latest beta firmware or is safe enough to install?

This is the most recent build release thread with a report: New Build - 01/28/2021 - r45592
Feel free to start there and upgrade to the latest from this thread: New Build - 02/06/2021 - r45690
and report in the appropriate threads. This thread is for development discussion mostly.
I have an R7200 which is a hardware twin to the R6800, and it seems fine. I have been playing with the last few builds and they all seem fine once they get settled, but I have had some spontaneous reboots, and they sometimes just seem to benefit from a reboot. Some of the recent ones would have the web interface work when just installed, but 24 hours later would hang if you tried to leave the info screen. It was like it hung trying to load the log in. A reboot always fixed it, but as I typed that I realized it might be my browser blocking the pop up with out telling me. I'll try to remember to check next time I can't get to the web interface.
If there is a real problem these routers are easy to recover with the nmrpflash recovery.
Hardware, 3 Netgear R7200 all running R45767. One configured as gateway using a cell phone via 5ghz client with wireguard vpn to torguard as the wan, other two in router mode.
The last few builds have been stable for me, and I have more of the features that I want to use setup and stable so I got adventurous.
I apologize if this is not actually a firmware bug but a problem with my configuration. I could find very little on how to set up a mesh with 802.11s on DD-WRT, so I am sure there are mistakes in my setup.
All 3 configured with wlan0 set up as 802.11s mesh, and wlan0.1 as identical VAPs. I could not get them to communicate using wpa3 and a passphrase, so I set up MAC filtering on the gateway with no wireless security. I can get all 3 to connect, and I can connect through a wired port on the router configured ones, receiving a dhcp address from the gateway, but none of the VAPs are visible.
A second issue, that I am pretty sure is a configuration issue, the two that are configured as routers cannot connect to the ntp server even though I can connect through them to the internet.
Attached syslogs from all 3 routers, and screenshots of some of the configuration and status screens. Serial port is only on the router configured as gateway. In my setup, dd-wrt1 is the gateway, and dd-wrt2 and dd-wrt3 are the routers.
