Hello,

I've just installed DD-WRT on an old router I had laying around. Router was working fine and web admin was accessible through 192.168.1.1. I just installed DD-WRT and the firmware was flashed successfully. I can now sucessfully connect to SSID ddwrt, but I am unable to access the router admin interface to change the default settings. I've read about the possibility of accessing it via telnet, but I am not familiar with the process, can someone guide me?

My device is a TP-Link TL-WR741ND v1.9, hardware version: WR741N v1 00000000

Thanks!

Nice, will look into that @jxm. I'm running Ubuntu though

Somewhere else a guy pointed out I've downloaded firmware from the wrong section of the website (router database), and that it's a common problem with firmware there to not have HTTP daemon running. I've failed to see the warning in the FAQ...

Does that make sense? Should I try to re-do the process from the start?

Thanks for your time

Which build number are you using? And, if unsecured wireless access to the webUI is blocked, that is the only way it is blocked by default that I know of. You should try as jxm pointed out, connecting via wired ethernet. This is probably why it is suggested to always do this via wired ethernet and not over wifi, I guess.

Gonna try it out right now, @kernel-panic69. I'm using v3.0 [Beta] Build:40559. Apparently I shouldn't have downloaded it from the router database section.

Would the process be the same when using a Linux computer? Sorry, but I don't have a Windows machine available right now

You shouldn't have to release and renew the IP of your ethernet connection, BUT ....

Code:
ip link set dev <interface> down &&
ip link set dev <interface> up

... you just have to figure out what your interface name is:

Code:
ifconfig

... in Terminal

Also, my DD-WRT router is connected as slave to my ISP modem. How should I proceed?

Thanks, will try it out right now. Sorry for all those questions, I'm not used to messing around with networking devices.

The only thing connected to the router in question via wired ethernet should be the computer you are using to work on it with... at least that is the preferred method.

It works. Firmware is beta and has a few bugs I suppose, but now I am able to flash a new one. Thank you very much, @kernel-panic69 and @jxm
