Last week I've had to setup an old WRT54 for multiple VAPs using VLANs (because DHCP and routing was to be handled by a pfSense router). I'm pretty used to how to setup that kind of infrastructure, been doing it with quite a few Archer C7 (Atheros WiSOC-based). At first I couldn't get the VLANs to work the way I wanted to, then I've read on this forum that I had to use VLAN IDs from 1 to 15 (I was using higher IDs). Everything was working fine after adjusting my config accordingly.
My question is: is this limitation still in place for modern Broadcom-based routers? Is there maybe a trick or technique that would allow me to use arbitrary VLAN IDs on Broadcom hardware (and the WRT54 specifically)? |
