Hi. I could donate this router this version.

This router's latest firmware's from 2017. TP-Link appears to have sold a bunch though.

It would be great for dd-wrt to support TL-WR941HP V1

I just noticed ian5142's test build on the first page of this thread:

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1100594#1100594

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1106352#1106352

I had forgotten before I put this reply to your other post (quoted below):

Quote:
I'm pretty sure one would have to do a little bit of hexedit magic to make it work. I don't see too many specs that are different otherwise without further digging.

https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/TP-LINK_TL-WR941HP_v1.x

https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/TP-LINK_TL-WR941ND_v6.x

So, I presume that to get a more recent build one would have to hex edit the upgrade file since I don't think ian5142 is just going to keep posting files for people to test? I don't know. As I've previously stated, a device has to be donated or the homework needs to be done and sent to BrainSlayer.

Hello to everybody!

Just wanted to ask If there have been some advances with this router. I have a v1 and it is very buggy, I'd like to upgrade the fw.
I am from Argentina so it is quite difficult to donate my router, and it seems that the monetary donations are not working very good for this model.

I can help trying to flash the firmware, with some guidance, but I've never built a fw for this kind of devices.
I've tried the file @ian5142 has uploaded earlier in this thread without luck.

Just in case you are not aware, TP-LINK released the GPL code for this device so i guess this might help in the development of the DD-WRT version?.

https://www.tp-link.com/ar/support/download/tl-wr941hp/v1/#GPL-Code

https://static.tp-link.com/resources/gpl/TL-WR941HP1.0_UN_GPL.tar.gz

I hope to help and that we could get this router with DD-WRT!

Regards!

Hello again,

just want to let you know that i have changed the original firmware for a compiled version of OpenWRT v19 that is it's working like a charm.

https://forum.openwrt.org/t/adding-device-support-tp-link-wr941hp/46548/11

https://github.com/FabianoTSS/OpenWrt/tree/main/bin/TL-WR941HP/V1

Maybe the experienced developers could check this version for helping in the development of the DD-WRT version.

best regards.

This is not OpenWRT. Your previous post was redundant, if you had read through the whole thread,
you would've realized this as the GPL link was in the OP. Hardware donation or homework or be willing
to test a blind port. It's becoming a broken record played in the background.

https://dd-wrt.com/donations/

https://dd-wrt.com/router-detection/

Serial boot log and full flash dump would be a good start, but a donated device would be ideal.

Hi people from good earth.

I know this topic is quite old but this equipment is interesting for IoT.

Please I have this v1 router with OpenWRT installed. Because when I tried to install 941nd v6, it returned error 18005.

I believe I can now upgrade to dd-wrt 941nd v6.

The question is: Can this attempt damage the router? (brick). I ask because I can't do any physical intervention to get it back.

Thanks for your attention and patience.

hmm the safest way is, to go back to stock firmware and than, first flash with factory to ddwrt build...
if you can do a cable to LAN ports than you can try tftp...directly the factory DDWRT firmwars

Did you use the file from the first page of this thread? Were you on the oldest TP-Link stock firmware for this device when you tried flashing it? It could be that it requires the one in between oldest and newest stock firmware to flash. I would have to examine the files to see if there were any further things that need to be done for it to accept the file. It would be best to be in the same physical location in case things go awry.

Yes, I tried to go straight from stock firmware to factory to dd-wrt. Then error 18005.

No success with the trick:
Code:
`echo "httpd -k"> /tmp/s`
`echo "sleep 10">> /tmp/s`
`echo "httpd -r&">> /tmp/s`
`echo "sleep 10">> /tmp/s`
`echo "httpd -k">> /tmp/s`
`echo "sleep 10">> /tmp/s`
`echo "httpd -f">> /tmp/s`
`sh /tmp/s`

The trick works with a 940n.

By TFTP, is it safe then to try the 941nd v6? I need to check how to it, I did many years ago on other router! dd-wrt is always my first option. Smile

No, this: https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/09-08-2021-r47381/tplink_tl-wr941ndv6/factory-to-ddwrt.bin

From this site https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/tl-wr941hp/v1/#Firmware I tried:
TL-WR941HP(UN)_V1_170104, error 18005
TL-WR941HP(UN)_V1_160614, error 18005
TL-WR941HP(UN)_V1_160523, I will try!

I'll also try with the file indicated on this link: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=40017

In summary, trying version 6 of the 941nd, where the hardware is very similar, except for the size of RAM and Flash, will not brick?

The 941HP has 1000mW (1W), even with success on dd-wrt, will I have this strength?

I am very grateful to you friends!

Ok guys... here are the results:

Using https://bitbucket.org/phjounin/tftpd64/downloads/ and renaming the stock firmware TL-WR941HP(UN)_V1_160523 to wr941hpv1_tp_recovery.bin, I am back to stock firmware.

So, log in and try to upgrade to https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/09-08-2021-r47381/tplink_tl-wr941ndv6/factory-to-ddwrt.bin or https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=40017 the error is 18001 (not 18005, all errors are 001).

Then, I rename https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/09-08-2021-r47381/tplink_tl-wr941ndv6/factory-to-ddwrt.bin to wr941hpv1_tp_recovery.bin, using TFTP... Nothing! Router restart to the stock firmware.

Then, I rename https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=40017 to wr941hpv1_tp_recovery.bin, using TFTP... Nothing! Router restart to the stock firmware.

Any other tips or clues I can try? Or maybe something I'm doing wrong!

My gratitude!

I am not anywhere where I can investigate at the moment, but I have it on good word that the developer was contacted about adding official support.

UPDATE: The problem is the primary device it is identical to is the TL-WR940Nv3 and probably why it didn't work. I will get back to this tomorrow.

Never heard anything back from BrainSlayer on any official support; the only thing that was revealed was that this device is (primarily) identical to the TL-WR940Nv3. I would have to re-examine the files to see if any magic voodoo was required.
