Hi!
I'm new in this forum and I bought a TP-Link WR941HP router that's not being supported by dd-wrt, but I did found that other routers with similar names like "WR941ND" or "WR941N" are indeed supported (I know that similar names doesn't mean that are the same thing).

So my question is, is my router capable of running dd-wrt?

I followed the steps in order to check if my router may run it, and here is what I found:
CPU1: Qualcomm Atheros TP9343 (750 MHz)
FLA1: 8 MiB (GigaDevice GD25Q64CSIG)
RAM1: 64 MiB (ESMT M14D5121632A-2.5B)

It will be great if anyone build this because this router so powerful and still the router is buggy with their current firmware.

Chances are very low for this to happen.
But yes this router is quite powerful.

It seems to be based on the 941nd v6 with more RAM and Flash space. If someone that has one of these, you could try and flash a 941nd v6 build on it. You should be able to recover using TFTP (http://bkil.blogspot.ca/2014/12/hidden-tftp-of-tp-link-routers.html) and most likely serial.

If someone has a serial (USB-TTL 3.3V) device and does not mine opening up their router, go ahead, give it a shot.

Hello, I'll sacrifice my 941HP trying some 941ND firmwares.. I need your help to decide, which firmware should i put on it?

I saw something about the V6 of the 941 but i've been researching about it.. And the chipset is not the same on V6 and V5 or lower (v5 or lower versions, are the only firmwares that are available now)

Thanks guys, hope a quick answer!

First of all which version is it, V1 or V2?

Here is a modified file for the 941HP v1, based on the file for the 941ND v6. Note it would be best to try and flash it via TFTP, most likely the web GUI will reject it with an error code of 18005.

The problem is that in order to flash it via TFTP you will need one of those devices I mentioned earlier in order to determine the file name the router is looking for. TP-Links have a TFTP client looking for a specific file name served by a TFTP server (your computer) on 192.168.0.66.

It's the V1.

I've been reading about the TFTP, first time i read that word LOL.

Well, let's see if i understood. The 192.168.0.66 should be ip of my computer in order to start flashing the device? Is that correct?
Plus, do i need a 941ND to continue?

Gotta be honest i've flashed with DDWRT five or six times. I'll do my best in order to finish this cfg. Cause i need it.

Thanks for replying.

See this link: http://bkil.blogspot.ca/2014/12/hidden-tftp-of-tp-link-routers.html

Also this link: https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr941nd#tftp_install

Use a program like TFTP32 or TFTP64. Like I said, the issue is the naming of the file. Unless you connect a USB-TTL 3.3V serial device to the router and figure out the exact file name, it will be trial and error until the file goes.

Really interested to know if the setup went well for the user. The router not being listed in the database is a real bummer. How soon can we expect it to be supported?

The TP-Link firmware enables to use this router as a :
1. Range Extender
2. Access Point
3. Router

Will we get the same functionality once we switch the firmware to DD-WRT?

Yes, if dd-wrt supports this router it will have the same features any Atheros based router has:
AP, WDS AP, WDS Station, Client, Client Bridge, and Ad-hoc. See this page in the wiki for more info: https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers
https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Repeating_Mode_Comparisons#Router_Mode_Comparison_Table

Don't expect new features to be added just for this router. Most likely this will be a fairly easy router to add support for because the hardware is so close to other TP-Links already supported.
