Hey, I got this working thanks for posting.

I have one question though...

I have a 60gig pen drive, I did the partitions needed but I have over 50 gig just sitting there doing nothing. How do I use the space left over for transmission?

Sorry a bit off topic

Regards

I was about to install pi hole in my rasperry pi, before I stumbled upon this post. How does this compare to ad blocking by pi hole?. I am not interested in GUI and other fancy stuff provided by pi hole. Just looking from the ad blocking perspective. If this can act as a replacement for pi hole, I would like to use this instead of using separate device for ad blocking.

Note : I have a Linksys WRT1900AC2 and the adblocking is set up successfully now. So far everything seems to be fine. I do have to add some urls in mywhitelist to unblock some of the websites.

Hi,

Was wondering is it possible to log all website url visited per computer? If so can you show me how or point me in teh right direction?

Just want to monitor the kids etc not visiting sites they shouldn't have.

I'm unable to even create the required folder

This is what I did:
root@HOMEPOINT:~# mkdir /jffs/dnsmasq
mkdir: can't create directory '/jffs/dnsmasq': Read-only file system

I also tried:
root@HOMEPOINT:~# cd /jffs
root@HOMEPOINT:/jffs# mkdir dnsmasq
mkdir: can't create directory 'dnsmasq': Read-only file system

I have R7000 using Kongs (05/31/2018)
I have a 8GB usb with 3 partitions (Ext2 labelled Optware and Ext3 labelled jffs and a Linux swap 512mb) plugged in the 2.0 USB port behind.

Another 2TB usb used as Samba share and plugged in the 3.0 USB port in front.
All plugged/mounted USB show corrected on router.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hello Yamaraj,

Thank you for your hardwork! Seems like a promising script to keep Ads away from daily browsing.

I have a situation, perhaps you can throw some light?

I have created the ad-block configuration and executed according to the instructions. My setup is behind a VPN. When I add the VPN address into whitelist and rerun the script, the script seem to be rewriting the added URL.

Without adding the VPN URLs to the whilelist, I am unable to connect as I have other firewall rules etc etc which means my primary virtual interface is unable to connect and everything else becomes unstable.

So question here - how can i ensure that the VPN URLs added to the whitelist remain there and does not get overwritten after re-running the script.

Thank you all in advance.
My configuration -
Router ModelAsus RT-N66U
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r37305 big (10/10/18 )
Kernel VersionLinux 3.10.108-d6 #21212 Wed Oct 10 16:41:43 CEST 2018 mips

I am no Yamaraj but let me ask ...
You are adding your VPN address to "mywhitelist" correct?

Every time script runs the "whitelist" gets rebuilt accordingly...as you have observed.

Hey Dr K..

thanks for your response.

That's right. my vpn address is in mywhitelist and i am executing the script using -w option.

after executing the script, whitelist does not contain my vpn address.

thanks.

Not what you want to hear but....

Re read instructions

The -w switch is for adding addresses from within the script....when in the proper format

Maybe you have a folder/file permission issue going on

Open whitelist with nano or notepas++ to see the proper layout then open mywhitelist and add your address manually

When the script is run properly the whitelist will contain address download by the script in accordance to your chosen blitz level then mywhitelist is put on top with priority over the blacklist

Address in mywhitelist will stay there and be reused until you take them out....no matter how many times you run the script

Cheers Dr K.

Managed to re-read the instructions ... and execute the script...included VPN address in mywhitelist ... and still no success.

when i look at OpenVPN log ...it states -

20181224 12:34:08 N RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: uk779.nordvpn.com:1194 (Try again)

also, i have observed that when adblocker is enabled wifi becomes very unstable.

note that i even added the tunnel port onto mywhitelist without any success.

any pointers will be helpful.
thanks.

Yamaraj my apologies if this chatter is going off topic

Your script is great and runs flawlessly for many others as well as myself on many different devices

Thank You for all your hard work that you have chosen to share with us

Sorry I do not use nord so from here I can only give you educated guesses

The setup for nord says to use two of their servers for DNS in your router setup

Are they in your mywhitelist also?

I may be wrong but I don't think the port number should be in your mywhitelist

When I go to your specified address in a browser I get no response with add blocker and without...nor do I get a ping response

If I go to your specified address without the port number I get a page saying that there is an error in the address...with and without the add blocker....though I am not in the UK nor am I using their DNS

If I manually resolve the address to 194.36.110.219 I get same results

Now the unstable WiFi appears to be a different router config or firmware problem all together...unless the DNS is being blocked

If you review the script you'd see that it really doesn't treat the type of connection any differently...does not specify WiFi or adapter in any way

Hope something here helps

Thanks to Yamaraj for the script. Agree this conversation shouldn't be seen as going on tangent, well in fact this will strengthen the script to cater to people behind a VPN. Having read all the pages on this thread I don't see any configuration related to VPN, so I am unable to gauge the config along with adblocker people are using with VPN.

Thanks Dr.K for your persistence and taking time to respond. Much appreciated.

Yes, I have added all possible IP's from my OpenVPN log to mywhitelist without any success.

In fact, i started digging around my router configuration and there was "Use DNSMasq for DHCP" enabled which I turned off ..nothing changed.

So ... back to square one on this one Sad

cheers.

Well...
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hoshsadiq/adblock-nocoin-list/master/hosts.txt
Is in there when run with "BLITZ level 1 or greater"... so all the time

If that is not close enough you could manually add it to the script yourself....
Just DO NOT USE WINDOWS NOTEPAD or the likes...
use Notepad++ or a Linux based editor

@Yamaraj my apologies of this suggestion is out of line to you

This script in most secure mode seems very nice overall.

Has anyone had success blocking commercials on YouTube and such?
