Can anyone answer the below questions, I'd have thought they would be pretty straightforward for someone with a bit more experience than me?

Just want to be 100% clear on what to do before doing the upgrade so I don't mess it up, thanks.

I also have a WRT600N v1.1 running Linksys firmware 1.01.36 build 3 and am about to upgrade to dd-wrt. I will follow the following instructions (posted above) and will be sure to use the image linked by jmh9072 above for step 4.

But I'm a noob at this and want to be sure I know exactly what I'm doing before I go ahead.

Should I do this with only my laptop connected directly to the router over ethernet with the wireless adapter on my laptop turned off?

How exactly do I do a factory reset (not sure if there's a sequence)?

Yes, you should connect using an ethernet cable and turn off the wireless adapter (or you could just disassociate from the AP-- all we're trying to do is make sure the only path for data to go though is through the ethernet cable).

The procedure for resetting to defaults is described here.

Trying to upgrade my WRT600N using the instructions a few posts up. It's fresh out of the box (but I did a reset anyway). I try with the first firmware in the procedure, but the firmware update gets to 17% and then I get the message "Firmware Update Fail". I am connected directly and wireless is turned off.

Any ideas?

Figured it out.. The update didn't want to go from my Mac. I used both Safari and Firefox with the same result. Switched to a Windows VM and voila, it worked.

Router: WRT600N v1.1
Firmware:DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/05/0Cool mega - build 10776M NEWD Eko

Problem:
1. Constant wireless drop connections
2. Exponentially slow connection speed

Installation Procedures followed:
1. 30/30/30 reset
1. Flashed firmware from stock linksys to Broadcom generic build v24sp1.
2. 30/30/30 reset
3. Flashed firmware to eko build v24tng 10431 mega using wireless connection
4. 30/30/30 reset
5. Power cycled it to get my ethernet (wired connection) back.

I played with settings (Tx power, beacon interval .. etc)for a while but I couldn't get my wireless connection stable nor to get my speed stable (frame burst is disabled due to I have 6 wireless devices).

I reflashed/upgraded it to 10776 using the above steps hoping I would get a better wireless connectivity w/o dropouts and a stable speed. I got the same results. My WRT54gx SRX400 had way better range and connection speed than this router. How so?

FYI:
I live in a 2 story house and did not have any issues with my prev SRX400 router (yes, my old one died on me)

Any help is appreciated.

Fixed. All of the firmwares (eko tng svn10431-11028) I have tried for this router does not support wl0 mixed mode (2.4ghz). I get constant dropped connections on my non-wireless N devices. Consequently, I set the wireless mode to G-only and it worked!

I hope this gets fixed on the next firmware release. Thanks to all the people who contributed to make this router DD-WRT compatible Smile.

Has anyone successfully connected this router wirelessly as "repeater bridged" to a host router (610n)using 5ghz band mode?

Somehow, I could not get my 600n (tng svn 10776) detect my host 610n using 5ghz band.

I recently bought the 600N router & wanted to shed the stock firmware. I would appreaciate if someone could help me with the answers

1. Is "dd-wrt.v24-10431_NEWD_mega.bin" the latest recommended firmware for 600N? could you kindly point me to the location of new firmware, if newer one exist?

2. Can the new dd-wrt firmware be directly loaded (i.e. no need for any intermittent firmware flashing) with the latest dd-wrt firmware from stock linksys firmware?

3. Any gotchas to watch out for?

I have already read the instruction for flashing to the new firmware from previous thread & hope that the steps h'v not changed

1. do a 30-30-30
2. Flash to the latest build.
3. do another 30-30-30.
4. then connect via wireless if lan ports dont work, and
5. reset the device on last time (normal power cycle).

Louisd,
Are all the features on your 600N working correctly?
I just purchased a 600N and have the same problem you had. It stops at 17%.

Just keep trying. I've hit this snag a couple of times.

If it keeps failing, upload the file via TFTP.

Thanks jm.
I already tried it. It will always stop at 17%. I disabled the wifi adapter and asigned a static ip to the pc. I've tried it about 10 times. 7 with the linksys webgui and 3 with the tftp.
Let me know if you have any ideas. I appreciate your help.

Disabled the wireless, connect wrt600n thru ethernet and was able to load the dd-wrt fw in first attempt. 2.4ghz g works flawlessly.

I've got a WRT600N on the way. I have a question, though: Does DD-WRT support both wireless radios? I want to set up the 5GHz one as wireless-N only and the 2.4GHz one as BG Mixed (no N). Keeping the N on an entirely separate network and band should enable the 270Mbps speed while legacy devices can connect on the other radio. This is how I have my WRT610N set up with the stock firmware. (I'm returning the 610 as soon as I get the 600.)

Why you do that ? Returning the 610?

Snif: As per the WIP thread for the 610, it is not as of yet supported by dd-wrt.

Does DD-WRT support both wireless radios on the WRT600N? (Excuse my repeating the question, I don't want it to fall through the cracks.)
