First I should say I have two Netgear WNDR3700v4 routers. One of which has the current Netgear firmware and regularly gets me download speeds of 260+ and upload speeds of 21Mb.
The second WNDR3700v4 has the most current version of DD-WRT installed (build 30709) and I copied all of the settings I could find from the original router to the DD-WRT enabled router so the configuration should be pretty much the same.
The speeds on my DD-WRT router are consistently around 160 download and 21Mb upload speeds, so I'm missing obvious download speeds!
If I switch back to my original router I can get my faster speeds but when I go back to the DD-WRT router it goes back down again on all networked computers.
I assume there must be some setting(s) on the DD-WRT router that is causing the slowdown but I've not been able to find the answer through many forum searches.
My TWC connection is rated at 300Mbps speed.
When I test the old/new router, nothing is different on my network, "all things are the same".
I would appreciate any suggestions on what to try to get my DD-WRT enabled modem "up to speed" Smile

#30709 is not the newest build but several people with your model are reporting good results at this thread :

This has been answered many times. With fast internet plans you will always get better speeds with stock firmware. Dd-wrt does not have hardware NAT.
Dd-wrt is about many options.

DD-WRT has no hardware NAT acceleration. Google first

If you are getting 160 Mbps across the WAN using dd-wrt on the wndr3700v4 that is surprising......you will never get more. 560 MHz processor won't do software nat anywhere close to your internet connection

Gosh. why didn't I think of googling first?!
Of course I did. All of the search parameters I did had to do with the "slow internet" "slow download speeds" or similar searches, but I'm not sure what google search term(s) would have lead me to NAT. I checked WIKI's, looked through the documentation that I did come across.
Sorry. I'm frustrated that I didn't put the exact search engines and terms I used to try to find my answer so I wouldn't get a snide remark.

mrjcd, not sure I understand that. As I stated, my original netgear WNDR3700v4 gets the 260+mb/s speeds.

Again, that's because your first wndr3700v4 has netgear firmware on it. Like I said dd-wrt doesn't do hardware NAT.

Oh, ok, I thought you were only referring to the speed of the processor and not including the NAT as part of the answer. Can you answer this please... does any version of DD WRT on another router have NAT or is this just something that is not in any version of DD WRT? I like the features of DD WRT but was hoping to keep the speed of my internet connection, especially since I'm paying for it. Smile

No version of dd-wrt support hardware nat. It's done by the CPU. So you would need the fastest cpu supported router which at this point is the r7800 at 1.7ghz.

Now I don't mean to say that to achieve your speed you'd need an r7800, I jus meant that's the fastest supported router.
I don't know what you need for your speed. All the routers I have can handle my 50mbps.

a dir-862L or archer c7 v2/v3 or any router with qca9558 cpu, gets about 265 mbps nat performance, without qos (u really should use qos but doing so will put even more load). thats a 720mhz cpu. the 800mhz p1014 cpu in the wdr4900 v1 (NOT v2) will get ur 300 mbps qos off.. it is a good unit too i had one.

tatsuya46, that's good info. I'm researching the three routers you've stated. I see you have the dir-862L. Do you know if there is a general consensus as to which of those would be best for wireless (distance) and/or features? I'm leaning toward the 862L but it looks a little funky Smile
Are all DIR-862L routers the same or do I need to search for a specific hw version?

Get an ea8500. Almost as good as the r7800 and in my situation it was better. I bought the r7800 twice.
You can get the ea8500 for around $120 on eBay. Range is much better than the d-link, which I also tried.

for range and features (lots of flash space to hold all ddwrt options), none of them. for higher end they are in a different (price) league. ea8500 is the second fastest qualcomm router tied with r7500 v2 & is top of the line for range.

the 1.4ghz dual core cpu in it compared to the 560mhz wndr3700 v4 is like comparing size of jupiter to that of pluto.
