Since USR usually use Broadcom, with the router you mentioned an exception, 1st try the WebGUI, next try RedBoot. Someone may have the instructions to access RedBoot using ethernet, but many are lazy like me, will use a serial 3.3v connection as it's usable on both broadcom & atheros routers.

Also, I like connecting using a single cable, rather than both a serial 3.3v & an ethernet (tftp server) cable. Do some searches on dd-wrt.com or google.com to get further understanding. I'm quite busy at the moment to give detailed instructions & I don't have this particular model, but the dd-wrt wiki says you NEED v.24 rc7 - build 8984 or higher.

Anyhow, good luck.

Use serial-ttl cable OR an old cell phone data cable

TX, RX, 3.3V, GND; in that order, the TX being the one nearest the CPU, GND nearest to RST button. (115200-N-8-1) Thats how my USR routers look, not same model as yours though. A multi-tester can detect the proper tx, rx, gnd lines also.

Take care

I have a brand new USR 5453 that I've just purchased and has never been turned on. I am new to dd-wrt but have over 10 years of linux as my primary operating system. I need to know if:

1. Do I do a basic configuration with the out of the box software first?

2. What files do I need to load?

3. What order do I load them?

4. Do I need to reboot after any of the files and, if so, which ones?

5. What loader do I use?

I currently have the following files from the dd-wrt download site:

lzma_vmlinus.htm
root.fs
usr5453-firmware.bin

I know lzma_vmlinus.htm is an html file but does it need to be loaded also?

Is there a HOW-TO for the USR family?

If not, I'll try to write down a step-by-step and make it available.

Thanks,
Jim

I am still unable to flash my usr5453 yet b/c i do not want to risk my router. So I would just wait for BrainSlayer for instruction.

I hope instruction will post online soon

There are five IC's total. One is under a shielding cage that is 3cm x 8 cm x .2cm. They are as follows:

U11:
MX054307
29l6408TTC-9
2L102700

U13:
SAMSUNG 543
K4S561632E-TC75
S5616 ZGI310BB

U20: (Under the shield)
ATHEOS
AR2112A-00
CS3923.00C
0607

The next two do not have "U" numbers

KENDIN
KS8721B
0538A4 GDH9713M03

ATHEOS
AR2313A-00
B38458B
0550

I couldn't get pictures because the chips were hard enough to read. If you still need dimensions, let me know. I haven't put the case back together yet.

It's brand new and never been powered. What would you like? Shall I just power it up? Do you want me to try a default configuration? I have the latest bin from USR and could try to flash that if you'd like.
