With my WRT1900ACv1 and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 I haven't been able (with various builds) to get over 100 Mbps. That is frustrating for me because i have a 200 Mbps from ISP and furthermore i'm transferring large files over my LAN.
So I'm thinking about getting a WRT1900ACS if it increases my wireless speed.
Please, share with me your WRT1900ACS real speeds (internet and LAN) and which build You are using.
On my WRT1900ACS with DD-WRT v3.0-r30016 std (06/24/16) I experimented with different channels, and the best I got was TX / DX Rate around 585M reported by DD-WRT in the Wireless status tab (using 802.11ac only mode, VHT-80). My signal level is around 66% (next room through the wall). My Intel 7260 card is 2x2 (ac), so it's a limitation as well.
I used iperf3 between two computers to measure useful throughput (one connected to the router with cat6 cable, and another with that WiFi card above). iperf3 results are around 250 - 330 Mbit/s. Actual useful throughput is always roughly around 50% - 60% of the full channel, since there is overhead on WiFi and TCP/IP, so that was expected. That's so far the best I got. When channel is set to auto, results are worse, as well as other channels selected manually.
I suppose getting 3x3 card should improve things, but Intel didn't make one, and it's probably the best 802.11ac with Linux support, that's why I'm using it.
