Hello!

I recently signed up on these forums (so I could read the OpenVPN guide) with a password that I haven't used anywhere else in a long time. I was digging through my spam folder and found a "I know one of your passwords is X" type of emails with the very password that I used to sign up.

Because I have used the password before I know it's not conclusive proof of a hack but I think it's strangely coincidental.

The email was as follows:

=======

Earl Bailey <Mackenzie@contactlenserewardscheme.com>

Subject: X
Message: i know X is one of your password.
I've recorded your cam while you were watching porn on XX sites, also I've installed a keylogger on ur pc & collected all your contacts on social networks, messenger & emails.
If you want me to erase the recording, pay me 1128$ on bitcoin address: 3K3vVqkxeDeD8Qbex4MzXe2WdAcfw2WXzF
(search in Google for "how to buy bitcoin"), [case SenSitiVe so copy & paste it].
If I don't get the bitcoins, I will definately send your video to all of your contacts, don't reply to this email it's hacked. WmvKgV
=======

I only redacted my password, I left the rest in tact in case someone wants to scan through the forum code though my guess is that the malicious code is obfuscated. Sad

Cheers!

I still get that email from years ago. It gives a password that's been hacked but it hasn't been used in 10 years or more.

Just ignore it...I've never seen any malicious behavior...just annoying. (it arrives in my email Junk box)

I have hundreds of different passwords, and recently received one email like that. Checking with my passwords databank, I went to the couple of old sites where I used the disclosed, and turns out one no longer exist. So probably somebody got that database and is phishing for some money.
I went to the other site and changed the password, just in case.

Word of Advise: use many different passwords to compartmentalize the risks.
