Seems I have this issue as well :

bin/sh/ burnboardid not found

I have attempted to telnet into my Netgear Nighthawk r6900v2 from Windows10, Windows7 in a VM, Ubuntu linux.

I have attempted it with several different telnetenable scripts and the Python scripts - the attempts I thought were successful as I was able to deliver the package. But upon telnetting in and making the connection as well I am able to use "nvram show" command. When I try to burn the board ID though ?

bin/sh/ burnboardid not found

Any ideas on what's happening here or anyway to actually burn the board ID ?

The r6900v2 is a totally different unit. It isn't Broadcom. It's mediatek. https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_R6900v2

If anyone is having issues with telnet refusing to connect after doing telnetenable successfully, be sure to downgrade your firmware first. The newer firmware versions block these connections. I had this issue and just downgraded to the initial release.

Grab the oldest firmware here:

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R6900.aspx#download

And use the web GUI to "update" to that firmware. Then you should have no problems. Hope that helps!

I held on to this router (r6900) for over 2 years ...
never hardly used it until last month...
I got the newest firmware from netgear and ran it a few days..Wasn't happy at all...

STUPID ME

I was going to call it quits and put it back on the shelf...
Then I said to myself..." Dummy, bring it back to CostCo"

I am $195 richer today Smile

and a note...never gonna buy another CostCo exclusive electronics item again...

UPDATE 2020

Corona virus forces us to get more speed via a Netgear CM1100 gigabit cable modem ($109 refurb via Amazon.)

400M service nets us 250M around the house with the same setup up as 4 years ago when I started this thread.

The R6900 V1 still works OK!
