I am new so this may have been already noted but this is the only forum I use that you cannot search topic title only. By including message text the replies are so numerous it is hard to sort through the results.
Anyway, thanks for all your work, I am just starting to use this firmware so good forum searching should stop some of my beginner posts.

This is an old post but it's still relevant. I'm trying to search the build threads just for topic "new build" or maybe even just a specific build and cannot. Nor can I seem to refine a search for a complete string encasing inside quotation marks as most search engines allow. The search for "new build" or "r44715" still produces way too many irrelevant results for the terms appearing anywhere in the posts.
I use SMF for my own forums and my advanced search has a simple checkbox for Topic Subjects Only. Does phpBB not have any similar options? It would be extremely helpful. IMHO. _________________ Routers: Netgear R8000, Linksys E1200v1, E4200, WRT54Gv3, TL-WDR4300v1.7
Is there a way to search keywords within an open topic thread? Let's say I want to search for my router model within a "Latest build" thread only. How to do it? Many forums have an option "Search in this thread" in Quick Links.

This forum is still using the (last) v2.x.x phpBB and likely does not have the add-on installed for that functionality, or it was not considered (I forget what stock v2.x.x versions had, to be honest). Those kinds of things are in the most recent v3.0.x (3.0.14, I think?) version of this forum software, but upgrading the forum software has been a discussion with no resolution to date.
Now, to search for the information you seek, you could possibly use *new build*r47* and append the router model or some such in the forum search function and then use "search for all terms". The only other way I know of is a cleverly crafted web search with pre-pended or appended "site:forum.dd-wrt.com". _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

This version of the software does not have this functionality. Search function is improved in v3.0.x and newer versions, but again... upgrading this forum has been a discussion with no resolution. The two key issues is the version of OS that is on the forum server and the downtime to migrate and convert the database and rebuild the search index. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Yes, it doesn't even highlight search terms in found search results, regardless by topic or post. Which in turn doesn't allow to sift through them quickly to find useful info. Instead one still needs to open each found thread or post to read it.
I realize how busy main firmware developer may be given multitude of router models and tons of known FW bugs. But given multitude of very experienced helpers, how is it possible that the website is not regularly updated by trusted volunteers?

Actually, it does highlight the search terms. You just have to expand how many characters are displayed and display as posts, not topics. The website is maintained by "the company(ies)" (NewMediaNet GmbH and EmbeDD GmbH. The number of people who do anything is very limited. I think the total staff size of both companies combined is 6 or 8 people, including BrainSlayer. Which part of the "website" are you referring to, specifically? _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

The funny part is that one org that I support, it is easier to use searches externally than the internal (they paid lots of money for) searches... So I am used to this...
6 to 8 between the both? I always thought smaller... nice to know.

As you mentioned, the forum engine was not updated for a long time. I was under impression that only 1 person is behind the project. But in case of 9 people its quite unusual such delay in forum software update. Yet again, no reason to not engage long trusted and devoted volunteers.
