I am planning on using VOIP.
The company I want to subscribe with charge $9.95/month for a local phone #, a 1-800 # with 500min/month that I can receive calls.
I want to keep my landline for now because I am just paying $14.98/month. It's only $7.98 more than DryLoop and in case the VOIP doesn't work I will have the other line as backup.
Here is my setup:
5Mbps Adsl Connection
Lynx L-210 Adsl2/2+ Modem/Router
Netgear wireless B Router
The Netgear wireless B router is only used as an access point and switch.
1 computer connect to wireless using a Linksys WUSB54G adapter
3 computers wired to the network.
The modem is currently used as router and DHCP server.
REMEMBER - PRICE IS AN ISSUE: I would like to have my setup as stable as possible for as cheap as possible. If price was not a factor I would not be using VOIP at all. II am open to any suggestions, but please consider the price I wrote are the price I pay in $CAD, shipping and all taxes are included.
Router and Wireless Access point
First of all, I would like to set the modem in bridge mode and replace the Netgear Wireless router for a router with good QoS and G wireless connection. I hesitate between getting a WRT54G V.8 which would run DD-WRT Micro and WRT54GL that would run Tomato or DD-WRT standard. I've eard that QoS is better on Tomato for VOIP. I plan to use QoS uPNP port forwarding and DHCP. Is it worth $20 more for what I will be using?
Linksys WRT54G V.8 $ 48.87
Flashed with DD-WRT Micro
Linksys WRT54GL $ 69.54
Flashed with Tomato or DD-WRT Standard
I looked online and on the community web site of the VOIP provider they suggest getting a Sipura SPA-2100, which is not available anymore. It was replaced by the SPA2102-NA, which is also not available from where I buy my products. I am really new to VOIP and would like to know which I should get between the PAP2T-NA(which replace the SPA-2002) and SPA3102-NA. Is the SPA3102-NA worth $18 more?
Linksys PAP2T-NA $ 50.49
Linksys SPA3102-NA $ 68.11
As of now I really don't like the modem I have. I don't know if using it as bridge will be better. Anyway, it came with my internet service and I gave a $50 deposit for it. I could take that money and buy another one instead. From the following list, do you have any suggestions? Should I be better to keep the Lynx L-210?
TP Link TD-8610 $ 35.98
THOMSON SPEEDTOUCH 516 $ 46.77
Netopia 2240N-VGX $ 54.52
Netopia 2241N-VGX $ 57.77 |
