Done. Smile Lots of MT7621AT devices out there, and many are getting OpenWRT support. Dual core quad thread 880 MHz MIPS; the wife's former R6220 (now running OpenWRT) has the single core dual thread ST version. But I digress...

If I had an endless supply of money and time, it probably wouldn't be difficult to submit the information to BrainSlayer. Hoping to get an Atheros issue on all the cheap routers fixed soon. How that didn't carry over on the kernel upgrades, I dunno... oh, and you're welcome for the information from fccid.io Wink Cool

Router Model: Linksys EA6900
Firmware Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r33675M (11/03/17)
Kernel Version: Linux 4.4.95 #472 SMP Fri Nov 3 23:27:37 CET 2017 armv7l

It's been 2+yrs since I flashed this device as a backup. And I have read somewhere that Kong has moved on with his life and is no longer updating builds.

One can only wish him good luck & good fortune and offer thanks for his past efforts.

Above you can see what I presently have installed. I would like to ask the community pls;

What is the last reliable Kong build for the EA6900, I should look at upgrading to? (39960? Or ...)

And given this fw version, am I safe enough to do an update via GUI? Or would I/should I still do it via telnet/cmdline/etc?

Are there any new gotchas to watch out for?

As ever, thank you in advance for your assistance.

As you probably have an old model you can install the XVortex CFE that will get rid of the 32 Kb bug.

My trusty old EA6900 runs in my summerhouse the last time I was there I updated was to r42514 std (02/25/20) that was running well, but you should research the build threads, if there are no problems for other Northstar routers like Asuas AC68U, Netgear R7000 you should be fine.

The last Kong build was 40270.

Thanks egc. The R7000 tip is handy to know.

Pretty sure I deployed XVortex when I flashed it initially. Router reports;

Space Usage
NVRAM 29 KB / 64 KB

I have now flashed to Kong's 36280 using tftp.

But I can't seem to find anymore the reading to determine which other methods are safe to flash with the XVortex.

IIRC, can't use GUI update with XVortex. Router gui doesn't permit ssh to be enabled and can't remember whether or not I should be telneting in and doing an 'mtd write'

How do you do your flashes? And, are the newer Brainslayer builds much better?

Kong's builds are good but getting out of date, so I use BS's build.

With Xvortex the GUI method does not work because the GUI method will want to write to the second partition: linux2
and that is gone.

So you have to write with mtd

You can get a new build with wget (below is a command for an old build you have to research for a new build), I use winSCP to copy a new build to /tmp so from telnet:
Code:
cd /tmp
wget ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2016/02-23-2016-r29147/linksys-ea6900/ linksys-ea6900-webflash.bin
mtd write linksys-ea6900-webflash.bin Linux

optional if you want to reset:
builds before april 2018:
Code:
erase nvram && reboot

after:
Code:
nvram erase && reboot

But this must also be in the EA6900 guide I hope

How do I know if I have the xvotex CFE installed?

Router ModelLinksys EA6900
Firmware Version DD-WRT v3.0-r42819 std (03/30/20)
NVRAM34 KB / 64 KB

I used the web gui upgrade from 41686 to 42819
Other than the LAN status page is slow to open, everything else seems to be fine

If you can use the GUI to upgrade you probably do not have it.

So even DD-WRT is showing I have 64K NVRAM space, it still have bugs?

What's the 32K NVRAM bug actually? I guess it's not like the routers having only 32K NVRAM so out of space for storing configration?
