Thanks for answering my question Just a short follow question: Does LEDE or DD-WRT/Kong have more/better performance? My goal is get the best VPN performance out of the router, things like Wifi only have minor importance for me.

the fw is negligible, if the numbers i told u are good enough just get the router. i find ddwrt better, and im an advanced user, lede/openwrt is just plain bad, lots of their builds dont even have a gui interface cause i dont know, lazy devs..? & even when it has a gui, its ugly, fat, klunky, hard to find anything, just stay on ddwrt.. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S) || Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi Settings Guide || Qualcomm Atheros Repeating

better performance on R7800 wtf... this router has
IPQ8065 (1.7 GHz, 2 cores) and its next to last R9000 what even better than that....
I tried the stock firmware didn't like it at all, as well unit was randomly rebooting, with DD-WRT Kong build, all good and smooth so far no issues with it...WAN performance and VPN are on very high level probb best on the market so far...

I only wanted assure myself, 'cuz right now I'm using an Asus router with a 800Mhz dual core cpu that only achieves up to 32mbps. I would never use stock; I've Tomato by Shibby running on my Asus and it doesn't perform bad, but the R7800 has a way more powerful cpu. So if you all say, dd-wrt is the way to go, then I go for it =).

You are exaggerating and / or have had bad luck with router models and / or revisions. I installed lede stable 17.01 on three different routers and I appreciate stability and flexibility regarding the availability of software packages e.g. f2fs or sqm and many more. Surely the learning curve is steeper e.g. guest networks with firewall rules or mounting of USB sticks and filesystems compared to dd-wrt, but worth the effort.
I have not the slightest complain about either GUI, so it's probably a personal flavor and / or depends on the things / amount of what you are doing.
To sum it up: Happy both exist....and all the other flavors. Your rant seems a bit trumpyfied ;- ) _________________ IT Crowd - Have You Tried Turning It Off And On Again?

LEDE/OpenWRT have recently redone their web interface. It now looks more like the Tomato interface. More reasonable. Personally, that's not my criteria for picking firmware, but you might be surprised if you saw what they're doing with it now.
Or maybe not, don't know when the last time you looked was. As far as web interface attractiveness (subjective, of course), I feel that they've passed dd-wrt with the latest update. Your opinion may differ *smile*.
I have two routers.
The Netgear R7800 can stream 4K video with stunnel+openvpn without any hiccup unlike the Netgear R6400 which constantly buffers. I guess the 1.7ghz dual core CPU does matter.

I am new to the forum so please forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place and if I am not providing enough information.
My issue is that I am unable to connect my Samsung smart tv (UNKS8000) to 5GHz. I can connect all other devices but not the tv. However, it will conncect to 2.4GHz and would connect to 5GHz on my previous router (Netgear r6300v2 Kong build). I have tried to duplicate settings from the previous router but not every setting is the same. I have consulted the QCA Wireless Settings for help.
The device sees the radio but will not connect even unsecured.
I would sincerely appreciate any assistance.
Here is my basic settings:
v3.0-r31800M kongat (04/02/17)
Wireless Network Mode AC-Only (device is capable)
Channel Width VHT80
Wireless Channel 149-5745 MHz
Extension Channel UU

I have not tried AC/N mixed previously because I want to ensure that AC is being used. I did however just try it and it did connect. Do you know if there is a way to ensure that AC is being used? Thanks.
Hello. I haven't been updating the firmware for a while (like half a month), and today I did the 04/02 version. I've clearly noticed a downgrade in performance, I had better signal in a far room (like 10 meters far), and after the update it dropped connection and it keeps going down. Also, near the router, web pages take higher to load. What could be the cause? Config is exactly the same.

Love that this is available for this router! Running flawlessly, except: iPhone Tethering through USB.
Enable iPhone Tether on router, plug in iPhone to USB 1 or 2, enable tethering on iPhone, "Trust this computer"= yes, and nothing. It doesn't work. It never connects to the internet.
This works on my WRT 1900AC. However, need it to work on this too.

Even tried enabling USB over ip. Noting.
Any help?
Thank you!
I literally will PayPal anyone $100 if they can fix the router firmware.

Kong's 31800M build runs pretty solid on this router.
I can see some certificate relate issues in the log as im using a DNSCrypt... also some DHCP related issues like it doesn't fetch correct IP's according to static IP list, apart of that its working.... i compare it with R7000 witch is rock solid...anyway tanks to Kong & BS, for adding DNSCrypt to this build _________________ Atheros
