Hi All,

My friend gave me a WRT600N gigabit router as a gift, and i read the wiki and tried to use the Firmware Upgrade utility , with the mega build and it failed.

I Then tried to use the tftp software i used previously on the router with ddwrt mini. 30/30/30 reset(got a 192.168.2.1 from ipconfig but couldn't hit with the webui). I then flashed the std 30/30/30 reset . (got a 192.168.2.1 from ipconfig but couldn't hit with the webui).
I then tried the MEga build which i read in the wiki should work do 303030 reset and now get like 169.254 as the subnet and cannot reflash. is this router bricked is there any way to reflash it? the lights turn on for the ethernet lights but no wifi and i cant get a ip to tftp to it.

any ideas?

so is there any hope for me to recover it?

Also why do i have to hardcode my ip to that ip address i cant use auto configuration?

so to test i would start with
i would set IPV4 to:

IP:192.168.1.8
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.1.1
and then ping 192.168.1.1

then change all my settings to
IP:192.168.2.8
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.2.1
and then ping 192.168.2.1

and go all the way to 10?

Also
why cant i just leave it on auto configure and ping all ip's by hand
i do get "destination host unreachable"

Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks

the default lan ip for your device running dd-wrt (or anything else) is 192.168.1.1

if your router is not running properly the dhcp server may not be running.

no dhcp server = no auto ip address for your pc.

that is why you need to manually set your ip on your pc to 192.168.1.x (x can be anything but 1)

192.168.2.x does noty play into the picture at all at this point.

thanks barry.

so basically i need to hardcode my ip as i stated before
IP:192.168.1.8
subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway:192.168.1.1
and then ping 192.168.1.1

I read in the peacock thread to ping all ip's ive ever used on it, so i should set it from 192.168.1.1 > 192.168.10.1 as i have used on it (192.168.1.1/192.168.2.1/some i forgot but did a 30/30/30 reset each time)

Is there hope that i get destination host unreachable?

Thanks,
David

if the router has been reset, it's ip is 192.168.1.1.

you have left out some detail.

was the router working when you got it?

you need to 1st flash a "trailed" build when flashing from stock. Trailed means the router name is part of the file name.

what is the status of the led's? all of them.

make sure your firewall & av software is off.

static ip on your pc (192.168.1.1, mask 255.255.255.0, gw 192.168.1.1)

start a continious ping

ping -t 192.168.1.1

power up the router and watch the ping output.

Barry,

the lights i had on are just ethernet on boot then just the color of the light i had plugged in no more lights(no wifi/etc).

thanks for the posting didnt know that flag.
I just did that it and i got destination host unreachable then a ping 100 loss 2/4 (which is great news from what i read!!).
so i then installed TFTP windows gui used this file as the base file:
Linksys WRT600n v1.0/v1.1 Firmware: Special file for flashing via TFTP dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt600n.bin 2010-08-09 2,89 M

It flashed succesfully. i waited another minute or so.
then i did a 30/30/30 reset with power in/unplugged/in.

the power light is now blinking and it has a valid ip address (dhcp works) but i cannot access web ui still.

So now if i want mega v24sp2(as stated in the dd-wrt router database)

dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin/2010-08-09/7,10 M

do i do the following
1.TFTP the real file from linksys stock image and do 30/30/30 reset.
2.then hopefully if it works go to that ui and flash
( dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin).
3. 303030 reset / then flash dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin.
4.303030 reset then configure.

Anything looks wrong / sounds strange?

Thanks in advance for all your help barry, i was quite upset but now feel a little better Smile

Thanks and awaiting your reply ,
David

if the power light is blinking, there is still a problem.

reflash the stock firmware..

wait, wait, wait.. if you only waited "a minute or so", before pushing buttons, that was not nearly enough time for the router to complete the flash.

much more happens then just the transfer of data when flashing.

once you have it back to stock, flash this:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2010/12-24-10-r15962/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt600n.bin

see the "wrt600n" in the file name? that is the "trailed" part I tried to explain earlier.

Barry, now i understand re the flashing lights.

I hardcoded my ip address
as
static ip on your pc (192.168.1.8, mask 255.255.255.0, gw 192.168.1.1)

and flashed stock and waited about 2 minutes. the flashing stopped and both the wifi lights worked javascript:emoticon('Very Happy').

Now it is back on stock.

I will use the web ui and flash this.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2010/12-24-10-r15962/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt600n.bin

After this if i want the features of VPN and such of mega sp2 does a brainslayer version of DDWRT mega exist or do i flash the v24sp2 mega version.

Thanks for all your time.

once dd-wrt is successfully flashed and running, you can then flash any dd-wrt build that your router supports. The build you flash, no longer needs to be a "trailed" build.

Barry,
thanks a lot for your help.
Are the brianslayer builds more reliable that the standard ddwrtsp2v24 builds?

and where would i find the site to see the newest brainslayer builds versus the standard dd-wrt to download / compare contrast?
