Hi, decided to give DD-WRT a go on this router following countles attempts at getting stable wi-fi with openwrt with limited success. Installed r44772 and eveything appears to be working fine for now, except dd-wrt reports that I have 256MB of ram on the unit...

As far as I am aware this model has always had only 128MB ram, openwrt reported 128MB, any ideas what could be going on?

Probably a(n) (un)reported issue that's slipped through the cracks. I just emailed BrainSlayer about it, will see what he says.

Thanks, unfortunately I might have jumped the gun regarding everything working good...

Keep getting intermittent drops/reconnects on 5ghz (same as on openwrt) with the following errors

Code:
Nov 15 04:05:06 pneuma kern.info kernel: ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested
Nov 15 04:05:06 pneuma kern.info kernel: mt76x2e 0000:01:00.0: Firmware Version: 0.0.00
Nov 15 04:05:06 pneuma kern.info kernel: mt76x2e 0000:01:00.0: Build: 1
Nov 15 04:05:06 pneuma kern.info kernel: mt76x2e 0000:01:00.0: Build Time: 201507311614____
Nov 15 04:05:06 pneuma kern.info kernel: mt76x2e 0000:01:00.0: Firmware running!

They appear to pop up at random, as was the case with openwrt, sometimes would be stable for weeks, but once they start, they keep reoccurring.

Errors aside, speed is great.

Stock firmware as horrible and limited as it is works without issues for weeks on end - just to verify that it is not a hardware issue.

The router is not being stressed as its only serving as an access point.

This was the response I got:

Quote:
if its reporting 256 ram, it has 256 ram. if this would be false, the device will crash and not even boot

I know we had another device that was reporting 128MB when it had 256MB, so not sure what's exactly right here, or if all of the usual resources are actually wrong about this device on how much RAM it has. Confused Shocked

Thanks for the info, given that two different firmwares report different ram sizes, I guess i could try out Padavan and see what that reports...

Really not eager to open up the unit just yet (i can see myself damaging the top cover) to peek at the ram chip itself...

Another intresting bit of info, I went from stock (was using it due to stable wifi) to Openwrt, to dd-wrt and back to stock, and somehow the initial stock settings where retained thought all the firmware changes... is this normal?
