in case of bad brick you will need tftp procedure and then again use the same striped stock FW ...
tftp procedure is similar to this one:
Easer unbrick:
1) "wr1043ndv2_tp_recovery.bin" ( http://www.friedzombie.com/tplink-stripped-firmware/ )
2) Tftpd32 ( http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html )
3) Download archive from http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=29248 the procedure is similar just different names only make sure you will rename the file with the correct name "firmware must have the follow name (need to be renamed to):wr1043ndv2_tp_recovery.bin
4) Use a UTP-cable ("no jtag"-style)
5) Read archive and PUT YOUR LAN CABLE IN THE LAN (yellow) PORT or WAN try them both !!!
6) Change your computer ip in 192.168.0.66 and subnet mask in 255.255.255.0
7) Set Tftpd32 ready for upload
Router - power off, power on then quick pressed the 30/30/30-button(reset button) till the "sevice-led" blinked fast
and Tftpd32 will autoupload your recovery-image then router will self-reboot like new.
Reset your computer IP to auto/dhcp and login in router at 192.168.1.1
if that doesn't work then you need serial connection its similar to this one:

ive made it once with the tftp procedure never tried the other options i hope that helps _________________ Atheros

so sad to hear!! serial com-port is your only option, or buy new router, unless you didn't read the other options couse you ware lazy or reading is not a top priority for you or you mess it somewhere in the middle and claim the other options they just don't work, well no other options known for me try harder or use a hammer !!
by the way i posted you a video with all the instructions check one of the links above !! make sure you read listen and understand the area otherwise is a waste of time !! _________________ Atheros

I tried recovery options on different versions of firmware, different systems, different computers.
I would like to try on Linux Mint but I don't know how.
I had a 1043ND v1.6 and it didn't work. I saw some posts saying that it should work from v1.5 and some v1.8 up. I was wondering if I messed up somewhere or not. May you help?
1. Switch off the router
2. Configure PC Ethernet to 192.168.0.66/255.255.255.0
3. Put wr1043nv1_tp_recovery.bin into TFTPD directory.
4. Open TFTPD64 v460 and select the ethernet interface
5. Connect with a standard ethernet cable, the Ethernet port of my PC to LAN1 of the Router.
6. With the reset pin, turn on the router
What I expected was :
7. The POWER and QSS lights will be on
8. I see a TFTP request inside TFTPD log viewer
What actually happened was :
7. The power light is on. The LAN1~4, WAN lights flashes. I think the QSS and SYS lights sometimes flashes too.
8. No log in TFTPD

Hello,
I have managed to brick the 1043nd v1.11 although the flash seemed to go smoothly. (Build 36698 caused the problem). Was running factory firmware previously.
When the router is powered on, the power light stays solid however all the other lights briefly flash.
If a lan cable is connected, the light of the connected port flashes for an extra instant and then the whole sequence repeats.
If connected to a pc, windows will flash an alert stating lan cable connected then disconnected over and over.
I read that certain versions of this router (above hw version 1.8 ) have tftp recovery and i have tried setting a vanilla XP machine, no firewalls or AV, setting it to a static of 192.168.0.66 and using tftp32 to see if the router was attempting a recovery.
At this point, this method has not been successful as it seems that the router is not maintaining the lan ports in a switched on status. I have tried the wan port as well but to no avail, the pc always shows cable disconnected if the cable is connected to the wan port of the router.
Is there anything i am missing or anything i need to try before i try the serial access method by opening up and soldering?
I have also tried a few versions of tftp to no avail.

for some odd reason TFTP on some routers requires a simple internet switch between PC and the router...
of the topic 1043 v1.X is a dodge peace of gear with very
bad hardware and low specs...
nowadays you can get its brother v2 or v3 for a cheap price, even a second hand will do and it has great stability and support by DD-WRT...
sadly its still for a very basic needs... _________________ Atheros

is that your experience with the 1043ND? is it worth me trying with a dumb switch between my vanilla XP machine and the 1043nd?
from what I can infer from the flashing and lack of any active ethernet port light remaining solid if connected, the lack of ping response on any possible ip address, that there is a looping reboot that is occurring without any of the lan ports ever becoming active..

I personally don’t think a switch will help in this case. They only way to know what’s going on is a serial recovery process.
In my opinion, every dd-wrt user should have the tools ready for serial recovery. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
