Are the WNR2000 and WNR2020 the same basic unit?

I see that there is a version for the Netgear WNR2000V2 but no mention of the 2020. I know that often model numbers that differ like this are in fact the same basic model with only minor differences.

So will the version that works for the Netgear WNR2000V2, also work on my Netgear WNR2020V2?

And sometimes they are totally different. Razz Interesting that wikidevi doesn't even show this model. So it appears to be a WNR2000 with two 5dBi antennas. However, from here, the v1(?) is a Mediatek device, and none of the WNR2000's are, so that's a bad start. [Edit: Worse, this page seems to indicate they are all Mediatek, as do the FCC docs.]

You could:
1. Compare the FCCID to the other WNR2000 models; if you find a match, you should be all good (depending on the version). If there isn't a match, search the ID at https://fcc.io/ and check the internal photos.
2. Use a serial header or the telnet.enable utility to log in and check `dmesg`, `cat /proc/{cpuinfo,mtd}`, etc for info.
3. Download the latest official firmware of the 2020v2 and 2000v2, and compare the header in hexedit.
4. Flash a 2000v2 build and hope for the best. I'd advise against this approach.

WOW! That was very informative. But at MY skill level, option 4 would be the ONLY one I could probably do. While I am not a total "novice", I am not much of an expert on routers. I did put this on my WRT-54G but that was REALLY easy.

I also noticed that the 2020 didn't seem to be mentioned anywhere... That is why I thought maybe it was a 2000 with a different number for "Amazon". I used to work for HP and we had model numbers with those slight differences depending on the store it was sold in (to stop people from price comparing).

I guess I don't really care all that much if I BRICK this unit because I will need to buy a router that CAN work with dd-wrt anyway. Maybe I will just give it a shot.

You could at least take it apart to check the SoC, to confirm if it's Mediatek, rather than bricking it outright.

Ok. so if it says "Mediatek" then this will NOT work on it? And I am out of luck?
