So I read the Peacock thread (even though the TRENDnet supplied firmware instructions have only a few steps). I did a 30-30-30 reset, and then used the stock firmware's web interface (in Safari) to perform the upgrade, using the trendnet-828dru-webflash.bin firmware. I was connected via ethernet.

The progress bar filled left to right once, saying it was installing the firmware, then it reset filled left to right again, saying to wait for rebooting. After it filled, I saw that Safari had started trying to load 192.168.10.1. After a while, that load timed out, and I saw safari's screen saying it couldn't load that web page. I waited 5 more minutes, and then did another 30-30-30 reset.

It appears that the stock firmware is still in place, as I got the default TRENDnet first configuration page.

Any ideas?

Did you then load 192.168.1.1? If not, Safari was loading data from cache from the original Web GUI.

I'm quite sure it wasn't cache. I was able to configure the router using the trendnet web ui, and get it back and running again.

I had the same issue with this router. I found that I needed to first flash the router with TrendNet's latest firmware (from their website). After I did that, the firmware version appeared on the firmware update setup page. Once that was complete, I was able to do the DD-WRT firmware update successfully (with the 30-30-30 resets, of course).

How do you like your TRENDNet TEW-828DRU so far? I'm thinking about getting one and putting DD-WRT on it and using IPVanish for VPN.

Can you tell me any Good/Bad you noticed?

Thanks!

The power is basically non-existent for the second 5ghz band and anytime I try to save a setting on the WL2-Advanced tab it does nothing. Have any of you on here had that same issue?

Did you ever get this resolved? I am also testing the same build and router and have the same issues. Considering trying a different firmware or going back to stock.

So far, I am not please. I went from an ASUS 1900 type router to the TEW-828DRU. The stock firmware had issues. I upgraded to a new version of their software, it still had issues. I uploaded the DDWRT version, OK...it got better --> STILL ISSUES!

To add insult to injury, box is not letting me go back to the stock firmware. Mad

I have a Trendnet TEW828DRU, and when I received it, I installed build 28211 std (11/16/15)

I am currently stuck on that build, I tried to install the latest 28493 --- 2015/12/10 and the router seems to upgrade, but upon reboot, the old version remains.

I did a 30-30-30 before and after the update, and it still remains at build 28211 std (11/16/15).

I tried both the GUI update and via telnet http://www.askmeaboutlinux.com/?p=2819

The upgrade appears to work via both the GUI and Telnet (no errors, etc), but upon reboot, the old version remains. Any ideas?

Could be a firmware size issue.

For the GUI update, was the option under 'Firmware Upgrade' for 'After flashing, reset to' set to 'Don't reset'? It should be; also do a Factory Default reset first (then set the login/password).

If you still can't update, then I think a Trac ticket is needed.

Yes, it was set to "Don't reset"
I didn't do a factory reset via the GUI, I did do a 30-30-30 reset which should be the same thing, but I'll try a GUI factory reset and see if that helps.

Ya that won't help, but look at this thread: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=999733#999733

Thanks, ticket opened, this seems to be a common problem with the router/firmware combo.
Please all, add your experience to the ticket to get more action on it: http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/5111

FYI, the Mantis bugtracker system isn't used anymore; you want:
http://svn.dd-wrt.com
I don't have an acct on it yet, or else I'd enter it for you.
