This is a simple question that I could not find an answer to anywhere, before I waste to much time on configuration setup.

I have two routers, the main one is connected to the modem/internet.

The dd-wrt one for the purposes of ipvanish is connected via a LAN port to the main one.

DHCP Disabled, setup as a Router will this work.

Or does it need to be connected via the WAN port.

If anyone can point me in the correct direction - I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Yesterday flashed to latest dd-wrt 11/14 on my router Archer C9.

I now have a LAN & WAN IP setup. (both within my network - is this the issue)

Gateway Router (Primary DHCP)
10.15.7.1

dd-wrt Router (No DHCP)
10.15.7.130 - LAN
10.15.7.140 - WAN

I can connect to Internet and Network when I use the LAN Port and vice versa.

If I use the WAN port nothing, I cannot connect to the Network or Internet.

When using the LAN port and try using OpenVPN with IPVanish, I can see it doing something it does not connect however.

This could be configuration at this point - not sure?

I think I understand now - thanks for the reply you have confirmed what I was beginning to suspect.

This then would lead me to another logical question, if I choose to go down the two separate network route, is it possible for the two networks to see each other as if they were on the same network for sharing files etc.

I know I want the world here.

The goal is to connect to the VPN router (wired & WIFI) and use the Internet through IPVANISH but still get local network access, at the very least get local network access through wired connection.

I am working in this slowly, busy at work, xmas and vacation coming up.

I now have the WAN -> LAN working on separate network, before setting up the openvpn I want to get the ip tables thing working so I can see the VPN router from the primary network.

I have now managed to get everything working.
OpenVPN is working with ipVanish.
I can get to my primary LAN from the VPN router (both wired and WIFI)

I am working on getting back from primary LAN to VPN router, it seems that I had to have the firewall turned off to get to the VPN router something must be wrong with what I am doing with the ipTables or I have some other settings wrong?
