I'm new to DD-WRT (but not new to networking, or embedded development), and I'm thinking about buying a R8000 and flashing it with DD-WRT, because I read that the R7000 (that I currently have) will have trouble supporting faster speeds. Does anyone know if the R8000 has this issue?

This is the link that mentions the speed limitation for the R7000:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DD-WRT_on_R7000

My ISP provides 400 Mbps download, and I'd like to use all of it if possible. I'm concerned about heat issues if I overclock.

The r8000 has the same 1ghz CPU just as the r7000, the difference is 3 radios.

Edit: corrected a typo.

I think you mean that the R8000 has the same CPUs as the R7000?

If so, that answers my question, and I'm back to the drawing board for a high-quality router capable easily supporting faster speeds.

Thanks!

Look at the r7500v2, ea8500 or r7800.
Or if money is no concern, lol, the r9000

Well Kong, I now have an uptime of +31 days, while during the last 20 I hammered the router with Torrent connections, and it's still going strong!

After more than a year of trying every build you made, I had the router crashing and rebooting automatically pretty much every single day. Seems that memory leak was the thing causing that behavior!

Are there any other important fixes after R31520M that I should flash to?

Thanks once more for your work and best regards. Very Happy

Hi, Kong.

I was wondering if you had a chance to investigate the changes in the M2 version of the Netgear R8500. I recently purchased this revision (sadly) and was hoping to run DD-Wrt.

Thanks much!

Kong, will your builds work on the r7900p?

If not, will you please create one?

Hi all,

A little strange one here, I flashed the router (R8000) but now have a password protected dd-wrt network visible, does anyone know what the password is?

Or has something gone wrong in the flashing process?

Thanks

The password is on the bottom of the router.

Go with the r7800. You have your choice of OEM, DD-WRT (Kong) or Voxel firmware.

Or you can do as I did, give up on Netgear and get a Asus RT-AC86U and run Merlin firmware. The RT-AC86U just runs without issues for me and lots of others. I have a Netgear r8000 and r8000p sitting on shelf due to issues.
