I see the developers has been busy these months as the builds numbers are growing rapidly. It has been said those builds are experimental, and there are several bugs to fix and new routers/features to add.

I've opened this thread for my Belkin F7D7301 with a BCM4718 SoC running 26138 K26 big.
I'm in the middle point between Murkkf & redhawk0 vs <Kong> opposite points of view on which build to use. i.e. "recommended builds" vs "try all until you find one works for you".

Note 1: I can't use 14929 because of the chipset. i.e.: Minimum build for this router = 15337 K26 (wl0_corerev=17, so it should be still supported).

Note 2: I've followed the peackock thread procedure regarding upgrading builds (hard reset, wait, upgrade, wait, reset, hard reset, wait, and configure from scratch).

Requirements: DDNS, 2 SSIDs (1 WPA2-PSK + 1 WEP), mixed NG mode at 20MHz, USB printing, ftp, milkfish, QoS, iptables, traffic log, (WiViz just as an eye candy, not a deal breaker). I rarely use P2P, but now I use a video streaming service.
I use syslogd while testing, and connection watchdog aftewards.
I would like to move to a more current build to try newer features, say USB/IP, and to be of more help to others.

EDIT: A list with the tested builds, and results.

Working builds:
.-Probably 15508 K26 big (tested on a f7d3302)
.-15962 NEWD-2 K26 big 12/24/10 = Besides being recommended by Peacock's Thread, is the more Stable build I've tried.

Builds working with issues:
.-26138 K26 big (except WiViz). Works good as long as the traffic remains light, else, crash
Side note: in both builds, the CPU is mistakenly reported as bcm4716 rev 1

Builds probably non-working for my (milkfish) setup:
.-Most of the builds between 17201 and 21676 (excluding the later). Tried several showing milkfish Error opening openser's FIFO. Ticket #2204 confirms it.

Non-working builds:
.-16214 K25 big = Memory leak from 65% to 20% in 9 hours.
.-16785 K26 big = Memory leak from 65% to below 5%.
.-16994 K26 big = Routing issues from the LAN and WLAN to the WAN.
.-17201 K26 big = milkfish and WiViz not working.
.-17967 K26 big = Memory leak (Wi-viz doesn´t work either).
.-17990 K26 big = The afore mentioned milkfish FIFO error.

.-18774 K26 big = WAN connections stalls (Wiviz doesn't work either).
.-18777 K26 big = Random resets within a day, with no clue in log messages (Wi-viz doesn't work either).
.-18946M K26 big = The afore mentioned milkfish FIFO error.

.-21061 K26 big (the one in the database) = The Wireless networks degradates in a few hours, until devices are no able to associate anymore and/or to obtain a lease. The CPU usage ratio is normal as well as the memory (I'm not using p2p). Workaround: release/renew WAN IP.
.-21286 K26 big, sometimes the GUI hangs; other times the router hangs.
.-21676 K26 big = Memory leak to below 4%, with WAN slowdown. (Wi-viz doesn't work either).
.-22118 K26 big = Wireless not working (not broadcasting). Haven't tried the rest of the functions.
.-23082 K26 big = Sort of bricked it. Had to use CFE miniWeb Server (through Chromium) to recover to a working mini.
.-23204 K26 big = SoftBrick too, regardless the different methods I tried to flash.

.-23720 K26 big = Wireless not working (not broadcasting). Haven't tried the rest of the functions.

.-25251 K26 mega = Wireless broken, even default's dd-wrt is not broadcasted.
.-25544 K26 big = Routing issues from the LAN and WLAN to the WAN, from the router itself I can ping Internet hosts.
.-25697 K26 big = Routing issues from the LAN and WLAN to the WAN, from the router itself I can ping Internet hosts.

.-25974 K26 big = Routing issues from the LAN and WLAN to the WAN, from the router itself I can ping Internet hosts.
.-26125 K26 big = Routing issues from the LAN and WLAN to the WAN, from the router itself I can ping Internet hosts.
.-26446 K26 big = Degradates over time, until not able to associate to it nor logging via Web or Telnet.
.-27506 K26 big = After several hours, not able to finish the Association to the secondary SSID. Ramdom crashes too.

.-33772 K3x = After several hours, NAS errors appears every couple of minutes (I'm using a hidden VAP). It didn't allow factory defaults, erase nvram, nor even upgrade to another build. I had to use the CFE mIni Web Server to get out of it
.- 35452 K3x = Same NVRAM problems

If somebody wants to see dmesg, top, ps, free nvram, syslog messages and/or other debug information for a specific build, I would gladly post it upon request (the next weekeend).

I have tried the following recent builds with the same problems with wireless "not working" on two f7d7301 v1 units:

k2.6 r23720 mega, k2.6 r23919 mega

Prior to that I was using k2.6 r18946 mega with no issues for my basic wireless router duties. I follow all the "normal" procedures for flashing (30/30/30, not restoring from backup, etc etc etc).

I have not seen anything in trac recently about wireless issues on these units. But I have seen others with routers using the same Broadcom chipset having similar wireless issues in the r23919 thread.

I have not had a chance to review dmesg, etc for clues. I'll post if I see anything useful. Or if someone wants logs for trac, let me know.

free mem = started at 62%, and dropped down below to 2% (see picture), nvram free = 3.8K



So, what can be eating my RAM, milkfish? I disabled it, rebooted the system, but it was a similar symptoms. It started with 72% free RAM, but after 6 hours is around 43%:

Funny: there are traces of milkfish (I didn't factory reset, just disabled the service).

I rolled back to build 16785 K26 big. With milkfish and syslogd turned off seems to work OK, but when I turn on those, I see the same free memory leak behavior. Starting with 65%, in 14 hours it has run down to 2%.

From telnet to the router, I can ping Internet hosts. From the LAN and/or WLAN, it resolves the DNS names, but I cannot ping Internet servers.

If I set factory defaults (needing an extra reset, which I don't like), works for a few seconds, but then blocks again.

Most likely caused by your computers firewall setting.
Another possibility is that the routers firewall is blocking the ICMP protocol but then it must be due to firewall rules added by you.

Not the case. a)I have tried several builds today, and the problem is only present in 25544 and 25697 (I'm writing from 15962 now). The only thing I have done in my linux PC is release/renew IP addresses as part of the tests. b)The IP failure of the previous post affected my PC, my smartphones, and my tablet, which weren't able to browse the Internet (http).

And, unless using the default dd-wrt settings, all my tests are with the configuration stated in the 4th post.

In fact, I have tested builds 16994 K26 big, 25974 K26 big, and 26125 K26 big, and what I found is
when trying to connect to a Internet host from my Linux PC (I will use ping for simplicity of explanation):
1)The A name is resolved quickly by the DNS, as it should
2)The first 20 or so icmp echo request packets gets no response, but after several seconds, the icmp echo reply packets start to arrive,
for instance:

i.e., 25 packets transmited, first 23 lost, and then start to receive "normally" the replies.
This behavior gives a sluggish Internet surfing experience, in parallel with a low speed (kbps).

I confirmed this by taking out the router of the connection, and it became normal right away.

Elucubrating: this might be the same bug I saw in builds 25544 K26 big and 25697 K26 big.

Build 26138 K26 big is good as long as I don't use video streaming for several hours.

Bottomline: I better find a more modern and powerful hardware.
