You just pry the board out and also pry the metal cover off. But really, it's fine as it is.

Thank you for the answer.
I will not get the Fujipoly it seems and instead look at making the heatsink better.
The are rebranded in my country and insanely expensive in a range of 170-250€.

Much appreciated tough.

Just curious, why are you trying this mod?

I used Xr-m from http://www.osco.uk.com/products/thermal-materialon on my R7000, free sample of 1mm and 2mm, very kind of them even though they have stopped giving out free samples now

As you can see I ran the R7000 up to 100% with some Linux commands in BASH, after and even did a little 400mhz OC, which I will be dropping back to stock, you can see I ran it so hard in to the ground, the main page couldn't load, maha! its alive

I will add that the metal part inside slides up,off of another metal part, that is attached to the board, be very careful as you can damage it, I got it up using a flat head, because no info was listed on this post on how to get it up, after getting it up you will see the cpu die

Allow me to introduce you to my solution...

First of all, my solution is totaly non-invasive, so in case you want to sell your router in near future or so, there will be absolutely no traces of doing anything...

You will need:

1.) 2x 50mm 12V fans

https://www.ebay.com/itm/30mm-40mm-50mm-60mm-70mm-80mm-120mm-DC12V-2-3-4Pin-Cooling-Fan-for-PC-Computer/173298785365?hash=item2859699c55%3Am%3AmGsc1Q5bRW93pTzsgupFxkg&var=472009254750

2.) 1x USB 5V to 12V (or 9V*, look below!) power converter

https://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-USB-Input-to-12V-Output-DC-DC-Step-Up-Boost-Power-Supply-Converter-Module-US/362278258151?hash=item54597785e7%3Am%3AmUxjpGHBQMGT4hfCCCUQolQ&var=631483228090

3.) UHU Patafix Adhesive

https://www.ebay.com/itm/UHU-Patafix-White-Self-Adhesive-Sealed-Pads-Glue-Temporary-Home-Decoration-80pcs/192285282453?epid=1002754671&hash=item2cc5189095:g:glkAAOSwLKpZg53O

4.) OPTIONAL! 2x dust filter for fans

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dustproof-50mm-Mesh-Case-Cooler-Fan-Dust-Filter-Cover-Grill-for-PC-Computer-TOC/123176444016?hash=item1cade36070:g:NbwAAOSwCQlZ8zHW

5.) OPTIONAL! sacrifice 1 USB flash drive for power converter casing

*I recommend buying 12V fans and either 12V or 9V power converter. I have both, of course, 12V is native voltage for fans, but are however louder. If you use 9V converter the fans will also work, spin slower and will therefore be more silent. I use 9V converter, the difference in temperature is maybe 2-3 degrees C.

Pic1: Get everything ready.
Pic2: Fans & filters & converter
Pic3: Sacrificed USB flash drive for converter casing
Pic4: Perfect fit!
Pic5: Drill a hole for wires
Pic6: Putting fans together
Pic7: Soldering the wires (beware + and -)
Pic8: Almost done...
Pic9: The casing and wires
Pic10: Done!
Pic11: UHU Patafix adhesive...
Pic12: ...on fans...
Pic13, 14: ...in place
Pic15: Connected to USB 2.0 port.
Pic16: Filters on.
Pic17, 18, 19, 20, 21: Hidden wires, final look
Pic22: Temperature at 1400 MHz (Idle 46, under Load around 50 degrees C, never over 51C)!

I hope it helps...

Shocked

Really?! Did not know that...

However, I think, still a better method than tearing up the poor router...

The metal casing that you've opened had more thermal padding between the casing and the processor? I'm wondering if replacing the thermal pad outside the casing will be enough or should I change the ones on the inside as well Question

Lol, why so much complicated. just get a usb laptop cooler then hook up to a extra iPhone charger and forget about that. I bet router never go down under 50 degree but also fan will help router never go 90 degree up. It is useful.

lol, why i dont see anybody request or demand on router become smart router or at least router can call emergencies for help. for example with few scripts on firmware ddwrt , you can setup a message by GUI interface that :

level 0: a warning pop up on GUI interface when you log in.
level 1: a flashing all LED if router reach critical thermal temperature level(over 92 degrees).
level 3: send a text message to your phone or email with log.
So many features on ddwrt but also lack and forgot real lifespan of router.
Why?? that a big question but i am unable to find down how!!!!!

Because 92 is not even critical, that's why you don't see any thread about temperature issues in the whole forum.

If cpu get over 90 degrees then it is telling you alot problem; Leaving hardware alone, then surely that fw not compatible, most gpio configure mishandle, most something wrong in software. I never see any thing cpu going over 87 degree if router running normal on either OEM or third party fw.
