Thanks for the help. I'll upload the "std-nokaid" firmware on the 2nd router and then follow the wiki instructions for setting up Bridge-Repeater.

In an attempt to hopefully "give back" to the community, here is how I would recover from my mistake of loading up too big a firmware and then getting an unresponsive router. I would only get an ethernet port number, flashing power light, and a ping ttl of 100 from the router.

1. Start up "tftp.exe" and select a NETGEAR firmware to load. I also set the number of attempts to 20 but I never went over 11.
2. Power cycle the router.
3. As soon as I power cycled the router, I hit the upgrade/upload button on "tftp.exe".

The router would always recover with the NETGEAR firmware loaded.

I'll let the non-noobs decide if this should go into the wiki.

If it's truly bricked you need a serial ttl converter cable.

True...you would need the serial cable...but you can try.

use tftp.exe and load the 3300.chk file...or the original netgear firmware.

but I don't think it is going to go without erasing the nvram first and that is done with the serial cable.

but it can't hurt to try.

you can try this build.

Latin - I'm not sure about what the state of "bricking" your router was in. Mine had a blinking power light, the port number would light up with the ethernet port I was plugged into and I could ping but would get a "ttl=100" response.

I couldn't get the .chk file that is recommended in the wiki to work. I'm guessing that I must have done something wrong if Redhawk says to use that one.

I downloaded the latest NETGEAR firmware and use the Linksys "tftp.exe" program to flash. I would start tftp right after I power cycled the router. I bumped the number of attempts to 20 to make sure I caught the router when it was booting up.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Another question, since this router can transmit simultaneously on two radios, can I dedicate the 5ghz radio to work the bridging from the Bridge-Repeater to the Host Router? If so, any special settings?

I'm trying to make sure that I get the fastest throughput between the two routers and not give up half of one radio's bandwidth to do that.

Thanks!

Yup bricked mine with k2.6, I had to use a serial cable to erase the nvram and start tftpd, then tftp k2.4 on there.

hmm, well ive had k2.6 on my wndr3300, but it was VERY buggy, like sometimes it wont boot. How I got mine to work is after flashing k2.6, I had to let it sit unplugged for about 5 minutes, then I did a 30/30/30, let it sit again for another 5, plugged it in, and it worked! Just took forever for it to boot (like 3 minutes) I don't use k2.6 as sometimes it would randomly reboot, wireless would shutoff, it wouldn't want to boot after a reboot (would have 2 repeat above process), and it was just 2 buggy.

mike8675309, please can you tell me what settings you used to hook up your Xbox 360 & Ps3 to this router (WNDR3300)?

I have no problems with the Xbox, but video streaming on the PS3 is a nightmare. Video will stop & start like there is network problems.

Thanks for any help on this.
