I need a relatively inexpensive Wifi AP and router (not my house or setup) that at least has 5GHz wifi and can support 802.1q vlan tagging on at least the LAN ports to create 1 trunk port (to another a managed switch elsewhere) and several access ports sitting in specific VLANs.
I have searched and cannot find any specific info. This one seems about the right price point on eBay, it is Broadcom based but the 802.1q list of supported devices on that wiki page hasn't been updated in a long while it seems.
I'm willing to buy one and give it a go to test, but before I do, I just wondered if anyone already had experience/success setting up trunk ports with this wifi router?
Update: I've just seen an R6250 available 2nd hand at a similar price. Which would be better? The R6250 is faster with wifi AC standard, but if range/coverage is my main goal, not raw speed, which is likely to be better?

Thanks. I appreciate the detailed info, good to know. I've just seen also an R6250 available at a similar price. Would one be better than the other for VLAN support and is the R6250 likely to have any better/worse range indoors than the WNDR? These are my main requirements.
Depends on the price range, but honestly I would focus only on Atheros hardware as ho1Aetoo has already hinted.
Also EA8500 can be found for very cheap; if you do not mind serial flash install range is slightly better than R7800.

Thanks. I noted the reply by ho1Aetoo, but I thought ho1Aetoo was just making me aware of the fact that VLAN is now also supported on hardware other than broadcom. Are you suggesting that VLAN support / stability / something else should make me consider Atheros over Broadcom?
I don't really want to go above the price point of the 2nd hand R6250 that I found for £25 as performance/speed isn't required and it isn't my home setup, acting as the family IT guy as we all do.
