Maybe some people just want a $200 router that runs DD-WRT for 25$?
Maybe someone here will identify the settings TMobile places in this router so we can put them in the DD-WRT interface for T-Mobile customers to have the best of both worlds (Tuned VOIP settings and DD-WRT)

Do you have to be a t-mobile customer to get one of these?

Yes you have to be a t-mobile sub.

Soon as mine arrives i will break it down and see what can be done with it if anything.

From what I understand, the router will have the capability for your cell phone to connect to it via cell phone digital frequencies and you won't use up any of your phone minutes.

It is for wifi calling only (UMA technology). I fail to understand why T-Mobile is the only carrier with this technology.

If you are successful with the install I would ask that your report any test results / measurements on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands, as well as any other tests that you perform to exercise router functionality. Bonus if you can confirm Optware.

so for the last 3 hours I have upgraded mine and pounded it hard. And havent ran into any issues. Easy change to DD-WRT as any ASUS. Used admin upgrade page on the stock fw and started with:
http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2014/06-23-2014-r24461/asus-rt-ac68u/asus_rt-ac68u-firmware.trx

logged in and telnet did and nvram erase and then loaded:

http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/25015M/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD.bin

No issues at all thus far.

It is simply VOIP calling. the T-Mobile phone firmware includes a VOIP client that connects to T-Mobiles (Level-3 actually) VOIp gateways. Sprint also has this and has for many years. T-Mobile phones will do it on any wi-fi connection. You do however have to set the address on your account for each phone as the big issues with VOIP is 911 (emergency services)

Please feel free to PM me if you with to talk further about how the TMobile and Sprint Cell VoIP works. AS I am intimately familiar with both ; )

I have attached the CFE from the T-Mobile branded ac68u. I would like a copy of a normal one for a stare and compare if anyone has one. I am still pulling it apart to see what is specific to this model if anything.

I don't condone hijacking a thread with a question that should be in a separate thread, especially when it has been answered in another thread. That being said, I suggest reviewing the smallnetbuilder thread based on this search:

Code:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=forum%2C+TM-AC1900+(RT-AC68U)%2C+stock+firmware&l=1#

If you look carefully in the smallnetworkbuilder thread, you can find the link to the firmware in the thread.

I'm sorry if you thought I was hijacking the thread. Since CDMarshall spent time experimenting with this router, I thought there might be an answer to this. As many will be borrowing this router instead of buying it, being able to flash stock fw after ddwrt is very relevant.

His question was not a hijacking of this thread, as the reverse (going back to stock) is definitely a relevant question. Anyone going to DD-WRT might like to know they can get their hands on the stock firmware to go back. This is even more true considering this is a rented router for many.

On my plain rt-ac68u, I just change the .trx of the asus fw to .bin and flash it through the dd-wrt upgrade page.

I compared your cfe with one from ac68u v1.0.2.0 (US). The differences I found are:
    # 2G TX beamforming parameters
    # Regulatory parameters
    # 5GHz TX Parameters
    # 5G TX beamforming parameters
    # Power-Per-Rate settings:
    # Regulatory parameters
    # Bootloader version
    # WPS AP PIN code
    # ODM Product ID
    # others

For the most part, nothing exciting. There is a parameter called "ATEMODE" that I couldn't find any details about..

Thanks ES I will have to look into some of those functions and see if they matter.
