Ok, I have a D-Link 825 (I know, I hear a lot about D-Link all over the place but it was free) that I cannot get to work how I need it to.

I cannot get either routing or DHCP from the comcast router to work. Here is my setup. Comcast router -> D-Link 825 -> Wireless devices. My problem is that my comcast router give 10.0.0.X IP addresses. My D-Link, now running dd-wrt is giving out 192.168.1.X addresses. I cannot get anything connected my D-Link to see anything that has an IP from my comcast router. I have a media server on a 10.0.0.X IP address. All my wireless devices get a 192.168.1.X address that cannot see the media server.

I've tried setting DHCP to DHCP forwarding with my comcast router (10.0.0.1) as the DHCP server but when I do that I don't get an IP address. This D-Link router sucks, that's why I put dd-wrt on it. It would drop constantly. I just need to get the settings right so that I can connect to my D-Link wireless and get to my media server. I have an X-box 360 and PS3 that I use to watch movies on and when I connect to the D-Link they can't see the media server.

The REALLY simple solution:

- Disable DHCP server on your D-Link box
- Connect a LAN port (from your D-Link box) to a LAN port on your comcast router

You are done! Shocked

The not as simple solution:

hmmmm.... something about connecting the WAN port of your D-Link router to the LAN ports....

or.... setting your WAN port roter in bridge mode, and checking????

or.... nah, why not just use the simple method - THAT WORKS!

Thats the thing. The WAN port on my D-Link is already plugged into a LAN port on my Comcast router and when I disable DHCP it still doesn't assign an IP. Also, when I do that I am no longer able to access the router and plugging a cable into it doesn't assign an IP either. Should I re-flash?

Ok, something isn't right. Even after a reset of the D-Link and leaving all settings at default except DHCP (No security) I still get stuck at obtaining an IP.

Most people creating a thead in this forum need help. So it would be very fine (according to the forums rules!) if you choose an useful title for your thread.

Don't use the wan port of the D-Link. Connect the Comcast to a lan port.

The simplest solution is to leave the modem as is, leave the router as is, and plug a cable from the modem lan to the router WAN port.

See the wiki on linking routers - wireless access point.

See? Ignore your WAN port on your D-link router. Ignore as in: do not use it. Okay?
